I need to renew my plates. Do I really need to get the car inspected first now? I will have to renew in person...

inspection due date should be printed on the registration card.

It's all done electronically now, and the registration + inspection data are reconciled that way too.

So, yes, if you don't have a current NC inspection, you won't be able to renew your registration.

Based on my experience, with the online click DMV renewal if the inspection is "current" (apparently less than 12 months ago) the system will allow renewal. This was true with 2 of our cars recently.

The 3rd car was NOT inpected early this year since I renewed the previous registration before the inspection due date. The online system would not renew registration. Got the car inspected and was able to renew it that same evening via the online system.

You MIGHT be able to get the car inspected and then drive to the in person renewal office and be good to go.

I'm inspected now, I was worried they would fail my tires. The failed the wipers instead. I didn't want to deal with a re-inspection, so they also sold me new ones for $13 each :(

I can't renew online since my truck has "weighted" tags. Since I don't have a trailer anymore, I'll be getting regular tags and saving $70.

I renewed my registration this summer and my card says ky inspection is due 6/10. I have been renewing my inspection in november for years. I wonder what the fuzz will say if they ask to see it.
