with the help of Mark Cooper, we rebuilt the rearend of the mustang this weekend. Did everything correctly and checked specs as we put all back together. Ran the car in gear for about 5 min while it was on the rack and didn't hear anything weird. Driving home is when the joy started to fade. Lifting and going into decel made some strange noises.

That said, I'm currently on the hunt for a '07-'09 GT500 mustang diff. These had the proper 3:73 rear end gear that matches the bullitt package. If you know of one, please let me know. I don't think rebuilding this diff for a 3rd time is going to help....

Rodney,

can't help with a specific source, but I just did a quick check on www.car-part.com which is basically a compilation of junkyard inventories that subscribe to the service. I first tried 2007, but only came up with 3.31 and 3.55 ratios, but when I tried 2008 it came up with some 3.73's.

FWIW, I chose "Axle Assy, Rear (w/housing)" as my search term, this should be the whole rear axle assembly.

Just curious what you think might be the problem or the source of the noise in yours? I would think it'd be cheaper to find someone who can fix the one you have rather than replacing the whole thing.

Found this (not sure if it's exactly what you need), and it's as cheap or cheaper than alot of those used ones I saw on car-part.com.

Wow, that's not a bad price. Would just need to follow up on shipping. I called east coast gears and they quoted about 800 worst case for a rebuild. My frustration is I've already dumped about 2 grand into this rebuild, so if I'm spending more money, this better be my final solution. I'd swear that Mark and I had this completely dialed in, but it's just making some noises I'm not happy with. I did get a good education on rebuilding the diff and what's involved w/ setting it up, but I just hate to do this a 4th time AND spend more money, but I think that's going to be my only option. That new take off might just be the ticket....

Ford Racing Parts used to sell a similar (maybe the same) assembly but it is discontinued from Ford. Their part was M4001A373 if you want to compare specs. http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/pa ... ield=10353

You might ask Newtakeoff whether they carry the later Boss 302 and Track Pack version with Torsen and if they will interchange in your car.
