Selling this will make getting Rodney's car much easier. Price is negotiable, but the "fair" condition trade in price is $2,540, so let's start there.

ummmm, might want to hold that thought, I may wind up selling the wife's escape, so possibly no mazda sale. Let's see how I feel tomorrow, you I turn on a dime on these car decision things....

Eh, even if Rodney changes his mind, it's still for sale.

Heck, everything is always for sale.

I'll buy it, but not at "fair" price. That car ain't fair. But it deserves a better life.

I'm in the market for a new project and have cash. But I'm looking for a desperation sale. Let me know when you're desperate :)

Yes, gosh. I thought maybe my definition of "fair" wasn't the same as everyone else's.

I said "Let's start at that price." for a reason. I could also easily start at ONE MILLION DOLLARS (and almost did) but I really don't expect to get that much for it, either, but we have to start somewhere, so let's start here.

As for what a fair condition car is, fair condition cars are close to junk. They can have rust, dents, broken items, be filthy, mismatched tires and so on. They are expected to run (for a certain value of run), though, and this one doesn't. I used the dealer trade in value for fair because it was about 1k less than private party- which is about the price of an engine, and I figured that was the upper limit of what somebody would want to pay for it.

Fair
- 18% of all cars we value
Has some cosmetic defects that require repairing and/or replacing

Requires some mechanical repairs Engine swap
The paint and bodywork may require refinishing and body repair This isn't going to buff out
The engine compartment has leaks and may require repairs Well when you pull the engine, coolant does go everywhere
May have some repairable rust damage Uh...
The body has dents, chips, and/or scratches The body is straight, I'll give you that
The interior has substantial wear, and may have small tears I see no pictures of the interior :P
Wheels may be warped or bent, have major scratches, scrapes, or pitting and require replacement Wheels are wear items anyways
The tires may not match and need replacing Never stopped Robert Plank
Needs servicing, but is still in reasonable running condition with a clean title history Define "running"
A few service records are available The car's not hot, right?

Not ragging on you or anything, but if I had a grand laying around, I'd take it off of your hands and just part it out. I'm sure the chassis is salvageable, but I'd just take the parts I want, pay for the car by parting it out and sell the bare chassis to someone who put his into a wall.

Fix and sell or part it out are two options also.

You would make more money that way. You can spin it how you want but you are selling a car with a blown motor. Folks don't generally pay much for those.

Whoa, good job to who ever destroyed those! They actually look worse than the ones I replaced in my engine a couple of years back. Are the crank and rods salvageable?

That one rod i wouldnt reuse. The crank could probably get turned and fixed. If the block doesnt sell it is going to sit in the corner, you never know when you need one.
