In case anyone is looking Bryan Hertwerk is selling his car.
2004 VVT motor. Purchased two years ago with 12K miles on it. Seen only autocross use since. Last dyno was 155WHP/126TQ as tuned by Tweak It Racing in Murfreesboro, TN. This is a stock motor! More HP/TQ to be had with E85 or SP-legal head/block work. •Hyrdra Nemesis 2.6 ECU. Custom wiring harness from Jeremy at Flyin’ Miata. •949 Racing twin disc clutch/flywheel. •Stainless steel clutch line. •1999 intake manifold modified by George Doganis (multi-time CSP National Champion). Modified and extrude honed, making and additional 9WHP on the dyno. •Maxim Works Header (unmodified) •Hushpower muffler with turndown. Never hit above 91db with this setup. •Underive crank and alternator pulleys. •Custom fiberglass cold air intake with “ram air” attachment. •Mazdaspeed motor mounts.
Drivetrain •1990 5-speed transmission and 4.3 R/P with Redline fluids. •OS Giken Limited Slip Differential with OS Giken fluids. •Mazdaspeed differential mount.
Suspension •Penske Double-Adjustable Shocks . Custom built/valved for the car by Guy Ankeny of Ankeny Racing Enterprises. •Hypercoil 2.25” springs – 800/450lb. •Hypercoil rear zero-rate helper springs/spring perch. •Custom delrin bushings in all control arms. •Offset delrin bushing in front upper control arms for proper alignment settings. •Adjustable rear upper control arms for proper alignment settings. •Upper pillow ball mounts on front and rear shocks
Brakes •Miata 1.6L brakes. •Custom cross drilled for reduced weight (6lb savings). •OEM pads F/Hawk Pads R – for better brake bias. •Stainless steel brake lines.
Rims/Tires •Bogart 15x10” rims with Hoosier 275/35/15 A6s.
Other •Early 1.6L non-electric mirrors. •Early 1.6L dash and center console (removes passenger air bag). •Corbeau Forza driver’s seat on Corbeau slider . •Summitt passenger seat on lightened mount. •Softop delete. •Custom front spoiler/splitter. •Custom rear spoiler. •Fender flares for tire clearance.
Since I got the car, I have: •Added 2 sets of 949 wheels. One set is 15x10 and has 275 A6's with about 33 runs on them. The other set is 15x9 and has 225 H20's that have the 2nd day of the ZMax Evo Shootout on them (that was ~10-12 runs in steady to heavy rain). The Bogarts have 275 A6's with 27 runs on them. I may do a local or 2 in the car in the fall, so those run counts might creep up a tad. •Put a new battery in. Can't remember exactly what it is right now, but it's small, light, and has consistently started the car all year without issue (I've kept a tender on it in my shop.) •Put a new Corbeau Forza driver's seat in. Moved the old Forza to the passenger side. This added some weight, but gave me a seat I could actually let someone ride in. •Stripped the old vinyl/stickers and had the car repainted and revinyled/stickered. The car was originally a 10AE, but was repainted twilight blue mica (also a 99 miata color, but darker). Paint was done by a professional, but was done in my unprofessional garage. It's a pretty damn good job, but not perfect. Door sills, engine bay, trunk interior, etc. are all still sapphire blue mica from the 10AE. I have a hardtop and it was painted as well. •Epoxied throttle body shaft screws and added a throttle body to spares •Added a pair of axles to spares •Put in a new radiator. •Replaced fuel lines. •Put in a new quartermaster clutch. I still have what's left of the 949 clutch/flywheel. •Changed engine oil and tranny oil. Rear end probably needs to be done.
I'm selling because I'm just not an SP guy. This car is an absolute blast to drive, but I need simpler, especially with my co-driver, who wrenches on my cars more than me, backing off of autocross for next season. I'm likely headed back toward stock where there's less to worry about.
The car was pretty darn successful this year. 2nd overall at 2 different Evo Shootouts: ZMax and Dover. Was leading the country in CSP points going into the Pro Finale and ended up 2nd overall. PAXed top 100 at nationals. Car handled brilliantly all year long...we fiddled a bit with air pressure, but never touched a shock setting or anything...it was great on every surface. The only time I weighed it, it was 2009 lbs. To really be a *top* dog nationally, it probably needs a boost in the power department, which probably means E85 (it's tuned for 93 now), and maybe refreshing some engine stuff.
