Okay, I'm going to need a pair. But from looking at the pictures on the G Force site, I can't figure out what you clip them to?

Anybody have anything good or bad to say about G Force (or any other brand) restraints?

The set I have has a round metal ring on the end. Just stick the metal tongue of your shoulder harness through the ring and click into your cam lock. The tricky part is getting the correct length, at least in a Miata.

See that's what I was worried about. I don't have harnesses in the car, didn't think I'd needed 'em for a HPDE. Can I clip them to anything on me?

Remember if you're doing HPDE that you'll need two pair... one for you, one for your instructor.

No suggestions on what to hook them to if you're not using harnesses. Sorry.

I now see your point, not sure if the factory seat belt tongue would work. The new guide at the time trial website (section 5.4) requires a roll bar and arm restraints in a convertible but apparently not a harness for HPDEs. I'll let Mark V. or one of the safety guys address that but I'm not sure I'd be comfortable with a factory three point harness in a rollover. We make a pretty big deal about keeping the drivers helmet under the bar for a good reason. Not sure how a factory three point harness would do that when you were upside down ....

I may be a wimp, but I'd buy a 5/6 point harness ...

The other option instead of arm restraints is to simply run with the top up. Something to consider.

I really wouldn't want to run an HPDE without harnesses....I'm pretty darn short, but still wouldn't feel even remotely safe rolling over in the Miata..top up or down.
I have G-force 6 points + (G-force) arm restraints....I didn't have a chance to try out the restraints last weekend, but I also ran with the top up both days. Apparently they do just clip slide onto the same bar with the other harness belts..pretty simple.

If you're gonna do high-speed events, you really need to install two harnesses. Sure, they're $3-400 bucks, but there's no way you'll be comfortable at 100 MPH+ on track without them. And in the event of an off-track excursion, you'll be a hell of a lot safer than with the OEM lap and shoulder belt.

Of course, harnesses really help in autocrossing, too!!

My $.02 worth.

Whaddya saying Brad? Oh, I think I get it. I think I do indeed. :P

But really, thanks (everyone) for all the help. I won't be able to hit an event until Roebling in June, so I have sometime. I might end up going the harness route after all. I was hoping to hold off until next year when I might go into CSP and drop a couple of seats and five points then.

Thanks again!

Tom at Autosport Gallery can get M&R brand 5pt for around $90 a set. He even has some arm restraints in stock you can look at.

I put a racing seat in the driver's side, and just cut a hole in the stock passenger seat for the anti-submarine belt. Some stuffing comes out, but actually looks better than I thought. My instructor at VIR said it was comfortable.

Of course, you'll have to install the anti-sub belt to the floor of the car with a steel plate underneath. Not as hard as it sounds.

OR just go with a 6 point. My labor is cheap, so I saved a few bucks with a 5pt.

The steel collar just slips in with the rest of the belts in the latch. I hardly noticed them when at the track.
