"Policy change: VIR has an exclusive contract with Sunoco Fuels. For the 2009 season, no participant may bring in more than 20 gallons of fuel to VIR. 55 Gallon Drums are not allowed unless empty upon arrival at the track and used only to transfer fuel purchased at the VIR Fuel Pumps"

Yikes.

That sucks for the endurance competitors that use VP Fuels and the like. What about that guy from down east with the diesel Jetta or the TDI Cup for that matter. Surely VIR isn't going to install a diesel tank just for those handful of competitors that need it.

Damn tyrants.

These type wordings almost always refer to re-sellers, not every-day DE or lapping attendees... but I guess you never really know what they'll do.

That is pretty crappy. Fortunately a Miata holds 11-12 gallons. I actually have four 5 gallon jugs - for Chin events. :D

So between a full tank and max qty jugs you can still bring in over 30 gallons of fuel.

I crewed on a Spec Miata team a couple of years ago for a 12 hr enduro at Summit Point. We only dumped 10 gallons of fuel at a time and the interval between fuel stops was about 1 hr, 45 minutes (if I recall correctly).

Semora isn't that far away and the first gas station carries 100 Octane. So in an enduro race you'd need somebody to go get fuel every 2-3 1/2 hrs - which is about what we did at Summit Point. I wonder if they have a similar limitation?

It's in the most recent VIR rental contracts

I'll post the exact wording a little later ... but it does, in fact refer only to people re-selling fuel

I think this will effect very few of us regular guys. I don't see them searching our cars and trailers looking for contraband fuels.

You are exactly right. I spoke with Kevin at vir this afternoon and he confirmed as much. The wording is in place basically because of some people bringing 200 gallons or more and selling one and five gallon cans to their buds. I think we can all agree that's not fair to the vendors who support the track. It does not apply to individuals having and using fuel for personal use.

It is worded strongly, and Kevin and I agreed one could interpret it as it has been... But essentially, VIR will not be going around inspecting trailers for large fuel drums, unless of course they suspect someone of vending onsite without prior approval

Glad I got rid of the supercharger. Now I am back to being a gas hog instead of a mega-gas hog. The latter of which might have gotten me in trouble.

This is really transparant to 99% people doing HPDE's or even club racing
so I can't see making a big deal about it.
They allow you to carry in 20 gall's which is 4, 5 gallon containers.
I don't know to many people who cary more than 4 fuel containers including Norbet much when they run BOTH Corvettes.
Most people at VIR buy their fuel in Semora or Sheets in
Danville, and this rule won't change that.

What this does is prevent teams from carring in their own 50 gal drums
of race gas.

I just received an email from TarheelBMWCCA stating VIR will be
selling pump 93 for the same price as the local stations. Their event
will be a couple of weeks after ours.
