is it just me me or has the quality of the facilities, accomadations and the track started to appear a little threadbare lately?

the track could probably use a repave, turn one is showing some serious wear and oak tree likewise. but my biggest complaint is probably the rooms. besides the need for a coat of paint, i have noticed things are not being repaired or maintained as one would expect given the premium on the price for a room. recently i have had the unfortunate pleasure of staying in a room with no light bulb in the watercloset and a broken seat on the throne. the same room had a coffe pot that had to be force fed multiple cups of water for 6 ounces of coffee.

the room this past weekend had 4 burnt out light bulbs and the access panel to the shower plumbing stayed propped up against the toilet the entire weekend. the bath towels oddly enough did not absorb water but rather beaded the water. they must have been washed in Zaino. the TV remote worked sporadically and required a thumping to connect.

at some point the convenience of track side accomodations will be overridden by the lack of upkeep IMO.

on a positive note, i have noticed the Oak Tree Tavern has stepped up their game, and the food and service have been very enjoyable the last several visits i have experienced.

i am sure VIR needs to be made aware of the percieved shortcomings of their facilities and such issues will be remedied. i did report the broken toilet, but i find it odd that these issues continue to arise at a facility that for the most part overall runs an "A" Game.

Steve,

Did you stay in the north suites or the main lodge? I noticed the north suites are better (in my opinion) than the main lodge rooms.

When High Rock opens, I am sure they will step up on some of the little things like this.

actually, these are observations of both locations, but yes the Lodge seems to be sliding downhill faster Kevin. probably because it has been there longer than the Suites.

They will be starting a re-pave project this winter... we should be the 1st people on new pavement (that is, if we keep the February event.)

It will be done in stages, with the worst sections (T1 thru 4 or 5), Oak Tree, Roller-coaster & hogpen, slated to be re-paved first. At least I think thats the progression they told me and Brad a couple months ago.

Next time you guys are up there, can you check something out for me? See if there are any recycle bins.

I've been thinking about this a lot lately - I don't remember ever seeing a single recycle bin at a race track. And I find that annoying.

Recycling still costs money in most places. You can take it home with you for free, or VIR can raise their rates to be "green."

My guess is that the metropolis of Milton does not offer recycling. Al Gore's internet may not be there yet. :P

Yeah, I forgot why they said it didn't happen last year, but they assured us it would happen this year

They blamed it on the contractor getting pulled away for a state job and that was the only day they could possibly have it done.

The rooms are getting really ragged. All in all it looks like a business that is getting greedy. They are booked solid but are not maintaining the level of service that got them to their position. Probably won't change with out some serious complaining or to quit staying on site.

While at CMP this past June I actually asked about recycling. They told me that the there was no local recycling, hence they didn't bother. Probably the same case at VIR.

Want to ad something positive about The Lodge.

Last time I stayed there they never came by to do the typical room service between days. I sent a note to them and they refunded one full day's rate. Can't ask for more than that (except, of course to have it not happen). Josh and crew made it easy with no hassle. I have to applaud that.

Either way, it is going to take a lot for me NOT to stay there. The convenience is sooo nice. On top of that, there is nothing better than running back upstairs in the North Paddock to grab a bite to eat, take a nap or whatever and hear cars screaming by less than 50 feet away. Heck, I'd live there if it were closer to home.

Ron,

I'll gladly make my own bed, clean the sink and neaten up the bathroom for a free night stay. Heck, I do it at home and I still have to pay the mortgage. Glad to hear they took care of you. One of my cohorts had trouble with his coffee maker and something else the last time we were there and they were pretty quick to do something for him.
