Ron's right on the hydration thing. I'd also point out that DE's can be even tougher than solo sessions because in DE's you usually have an instructor telling you something on the straight. Or, at the very least, your mind wanders to worrying about things you've done or are about to do when on the straight.

It's similar to what you find when you are learning a new track. I find two or three practice sessions at VIR on a test day to be no big deal. The same amount of seat time on a new track to me REALLY wears me out. I think the only difference is that I'm only concentrating about 90% of the time at VIR, whereas at a new place I'm in it 100%. At a track you know you can take little breaks and I think that helps big time.

I'll put Rodney on "my do not ride with list" too Ron. I exit T9 at 105MPH and I bled off at least 10MPH before I pass T10. No way I'm going to enter that turn with no braking.

FYI, IIRC Mitch tried T10 with just a lift in his E36 and he didn't make it.

I've also heard you could floor a Ferrari in T6 and make it...

Damn, looks like I a made a list, although it's a bad list! When the instructor said just lift, no brake, that's what I did....but... you have to remember I wasn't carrying a ton of speed. A lift, turn in and accelerate into 10 put me around 85 at the top of the hill. And to Ron's point, I did nip the gator in T10. The car felt very nutral under acceleration at the top of the hill on 10.

After I have a few more events under my belt and carry more speed into the esses, I certainly do the braking where needed!

I think the point is that you don't even need to burden yourself w/ that decision. Simply always do it to be on the safe side.

I can say that during parade laps during lunch break last spring that I did NOT brake for T10. 8)

Yeah, sorry. :( I guess my point was be very careful...especially at places WELL known to bite you it the @$$ like T6, T10, & T17. I had my 2nd EVER uncontrolled off in T10 this event, but it wasn't for lack of respect for it.

did someone say 17a?

T6 eats high HP cars. but we all know that already.

rock on Rodney. the difference between 85 mph and 105mph at T10 is the point of everyones concern. as has been said, brake for T10. 8)

First, we all are on one of Vincent's Lists (I think I am on his Favorites to Spoon with List) so don't sweat it.

Secondly, my first event I had the same instruction while on south. It was Go, go, go at t10 you can keep if floored here on the first day. On the second day it was brake, brake, brake your going to fast. I said you told me to floor it, "yeah but you weren't carrying any speed into it yesterday".

Third, with my limited experience, my butt data acquistion tells me a more controlled entrance into 10 allows me to pick up more time going into 11 and shooting across to Oak tree. At least I know I catch up with alot of higher HP cars at that point.

Glad everyone, or nearly everyone, had FUN, and got it back in one piece.
We couldn't have asked for a better 2 days. GREAT support from the Club, with several first-timers getting initiated into the HPDE culture.

Props to ALL, including volunteers, for taking the time to pitch in where needed. K. Butler, especially, did Yeoman duty despite having mech. problems with his sled. SOB is my nemesis on the track :) , but no one hustles to make our events seamless more than he...

So... it begs the question:
Would you do another week-day event next year (or maybe THIS year), if we schedule it?

See my poll in the TRACK section.

Thanks Brad, just helping out.

Despite the mechanical issues, I had a good time and still managed to get ~20 laps in. Managed to get into the 2:20's both Wed & Thurs. That's 1 second improvement for this year. :D I'd like to get into the 2:18's - 2:17's this year. I swear this is getting worse than crack could ever be.

Mechanicals: Wow. Never have I had such a laundry list.

1. Loose EGR cap on header(from EGR delete to support coolant reroute)
2. Flat tire
3. Mystery starter click (generally would start except when time to go on track)
4. Sizeable trail of lubricant puddles after backing out of trailer Thursday a.m.
5. Supercharger belts suddenly deciding to derail and shred
6. More mystery starter click when time to go on track again
7. Loss of power to barely running while on track.

The EGR cap won't come loose again - trust me.

The lube leak was due to an overfilled tranny.

Still don't know what the deal with the SC belts was. I feel it has to do with the autotensioner, but can't justify my suspicion other than belts run fine and suddenly get thrown when it's on the car (could it be possesssed?)

I should've taken the hint from the mystery click on the starter. It tied in to the car loosing power on the track. In the end it was due to my dumba$$ mechanic leaving the ring connector nut on the alternator loose. I'd fire the guy, but he's too cheap. The nut came off and I basicly was driving on just the battery for when I could get out on both days.

Considering I had just completed a motor swap which incorporated a coolant reroute, EGR delete, remote oil filter/cooler update, and Hondata intake gasket install (longer studs, but took 2 tries), I can't complain about half the problems I had. The flat tire and Supercharger belt issue was just bad mojo.

Thanks to Daniel Clark, Mark Hughes, Wesley Sadler, Rodney Wright and anyone else I may overlook for helping out and moral support. It was greatly appreciated.

See ya'll at CMP!
