I have heard differing opinions about this course.
Infield access and egress woes (upsetting the car) to problems with wheel studs??

but

It is a holly land of sorts, and trackipedia's got me a friggin excited.

Should I keep W's $600.00 in the bank or sign myself up for the october event when it opens on motorsportsreg???

run the Rock. respect the Rock. my first two track events were at the Rock. i have not run the Rock since 2005.

as a novice, the track is easy to see, and there are very few turns to learn. if you are conservative there is much to learn.

if you think you can run anything anywhere, and you attempt to prove that bravado at "The Rock", you will eat wall hard and fast. 8)

I *heart* the Rock. I think I have ran there 4 times.

Just remember like Steve said, RESPECT THE ROCK.

Most people have a love/hate relationship with The Rock ...

Love the banking and the sense of speed (proximity to walls), hate the proximity to the walls and the abrasive nature of the track surface.

But you really do need to experience that banking at speed at least once in your life, and what better way than to do it with us?! :D

I doubt I'll be able to configure registration for it until after we close out the May event. It will be the first registration from scratch using the new MotorsportReg software that was just released... should be a lot simpler and more intuitive than we've had in the past (which I thought was pretty darn good.)

Jake,

You need to do it at least once, so sign up and run with us. It is short enough that you can commit the turns to muscle memory fairly quickly. And standing in the paddock watching and hearing the cars run around the NASCAR surface is a treat to the gear-head senses.

As for ingress/egress --- You will have to find which line in T3 (off the back straight and into the infield) is best for your Fox (high, low or middle). From my memory and my experience in my New Edge Cobras, the high line is a little rougher transition, but allows more room for error when learning. I personally like the middle line, but it makes for two braking zones (for me).

For T9 (infield back out into NASCAR T4), you can stay low and transition back up on the straight down towards the Start/Finish line or you can find the "sweet spot" about halfway through NASCAR T4. There is a smal spot (about 10 or so feet in length maybe) where the transition between the apron and the banking is not as sudden. It is hard to describe, but I can show you at the track. Glen Mead showed me this area of the track there last year and it made for a much smoother transition up onto the Roval surface.

Banked NASCAR T1 and T2 are something to experience, some people enjoy it more than others. Just remember to look UP out of the top left corner of your windshield, LOL. You will see what I mean.

HOWEVER, I will gladly defer anything I stated above to the instructors on the board that are willing to chime in. Listen to them first. My NE chassis will react a little differently than your Fox body, but they are very similar.

The Rock is a lot of fun. Make sure you get a garage for the whole experience.

I took my first HPDE there two and half years ago and will be racing there this September. I get the willies thinking of going side by side into turn 1 :D

You've really come a long way from that event Jim... then again, you had a plan didn't you? :)

I am not sure I had an definitive plan  After my first HPDE at Rockingham the gears were in motion though. And after the 2006 DC Pro, I knew I had lost my lust of AX because a new vixen had entered my life.

For starters ya might get the Turns right...

NASCAR 1, NASCAR 2, T3 (into infield), T4 A & B (The Fishhook), T5 (sweeper at end of Paddock Straight), T6 onto the oval and front straight (never bothered to include NASCAR 4, as it's not really involved)...

Others will argue that T4 A & B are T4 and T5... they weren't there when the turns were numbered to start with and haven't grasped the A & B thing...

This was always found to be the easiest way to ID them for most folks... being the Chief SS Instructor for several SCCA schools held there in it's early years I can attest to never having any problems... even the newbie students picked right up on it... KISS...

Steve 'who laid the damn thing out so oughta know which turns are which...' Coleman

PS: Were some of ya'll at the PCA Lowes event last year per chance and got some of they ideas... they took Three NASCAR Turns (actually Four since they somehow figured NASCAR 1 was involved) and Six Infield Turns and turned them into Fourteen Turns with the first turn after the S / F being T5... ever seen a track where the S / F line didn't have T1 the first after it... if so. please let me in on it... and yes I know that races are sometimes 'started' at other locations for safeties sake (e.g. Mid-Ohio)... oh yeah, and just to reinforce the T4 deal at The Rock, the 'correct' numbering system has the third turn as T3 A & B...

The turn numbering thing is probably my fault Steve... when the Rock re-opened for club use in '05, I got my hands on the much more accurate media location facility map which was much more detailed than the old Car Guys map we had to work with.

In one of those last-minute things I tend to do, I made an electronic file and added turn numbers for reference. I added too many obviously, and that map with those numbers is still floating around in various locations.

FWIW... from an event promotion standpoint, we'd much rather be promoting a track with 9 turns as opposed to 6 :D

Steve,

Thank you for the clarification. Not all off us are privy to knowing "the man" and his thoughts. I was going by the turns listed on trackpedia.com as it is a readily available source of info: http://www.trackpedia.com/wiki/North_Ca ... kingham%29

If this site is wrong, can someone have it updated with what is correct?

Stacy,

Unless you uploaded this map to trackpedia.com, you are not at fault.

Not only is that the one I photochopped... but that's also a copy of the original plans (look familiar Steve?)

Thats also my telemetry from one of our early events there. You should log into the forums there sometime Kevin... I'm very active on that site.
