It was a long weekend, but pretty rewarding. I managed to pull out a third place finish in CMC in Saturday's race. The top five CMC cars all broke the track record during the race. I ran a 16.1, knocking 2.4 seconds off my fastest lap at VIR full. Mike Morris lowered the boom, setting the new track record at 14.7.
The fun thing, NASA gave CMC their own run group. This was a first for me. Previously we started inside the main Thunder group. So if you were 1 second slower in qualifying, you might be 10-15 cars back of the CMC leaders.
I managed to dog the leaders all race, finishing up in 3rd place. The two leaders Mike Morris and Kent Lydic played a lot games to keep me back in third

When they encountered lapped traffic in the lower esses and climbing esses, the bump drafts Lydic gave to Morris insured I was not going to make up the 20 yards on them.
All weekend I was not feeling well and Sunday's rain and cold did make things better. I was 7th fastest in practice and managed to qualify 5th. Got a great start and had a good inside line into turn one. Morris was in front of me, he had to lift and when I went back to the throttle, around I went. Now I was sitting backwards in the wet grass inside of turn two, stuck. I managed to get it into reverse and back up the hill and then get a run towards the track. Once back on the track, I started to run down the back of the field. There was still hope for a decent finish. That is until I spun it 360 before NASCAR. With cars littering the sides of the track, I decided to back it down and bring it home in one piece.
Overall, it was a great weekend. And getting to kiss the trophy girl was a bonus
I will try and get some video out there this week. I want to get the video from Lydic car too. The bump he gave Morris in the uphill esses was nasty. The save Mike did was awesome.
