I met someone who works there this past weekend at VIR. Seems like they are progressing, finally. Permits were the issue. I am pleased to learn that Alan Wilson will have NOTHING to do with the design of the track. Elliot Forbes Robinson is designing it.

Yeah... that Chin date is/was an UNauthorized date. Last I talked with High Rock, even if from here on out, everything goes better than planned, they aren't looking to start paving until late summer, with at least a month curing time (they're hoping for two).

They do hope to at least have the track graded and paved by this fall, but of course, there are a lot of things that need to go right. Namely weather. I seriously doubt there's much chance of being able to host an event there before 2009.

Yeah, IMHO, they did a piss poor job of paving. Might not have overlapped the joints like they should have.

Or the jet dryers melted the seams between the joints that allowed the water to weep up through the joints. Which is what was reported.

There sure are a lot of people that not only pay attention to a motorsport that they claim to not like but post about it too.

always the keen observer ain't you Wes. Nascar ruined Nascar racing quite a few years ago. However, i found the daytona 500 quite entertaining this year. whether it was the opportunity to follow the race during the commercials compliments of DirecTV or the COT race car changing the commonplace style of restrictor plate racing, i can't say.

as a casual observer, i would say Toyota HP and the apparent handling capabilities of the COT on the speedways will make for some entertaining racing action. that is untill NASCRAP steps in to level the playing field for the TV and advertising audience. rolling billboards, lest we forget.

What?!? You find it entertaining to watch a roulette wheel? I didn't think it took any skill to win that race...you simply needed to be one of a dozen or more drivers to keep your car somewhat near the front and then get help at exactly the right time(s). The restrictor plate races have always been somewhat like that, and not the COT has made them even WORSE, IMHO. NASCAR is officially dead to me.

i appeared to me that there was more lateral movement than in years past. the cars seemd to be able to drive on more areas of the track than usual. agreed, it is still a caravan lasting 500 miles.

Wow... if this thread isn't the definition of Highjacked, I don't know what is... so to add to the fire:

Isn't it sort-of ironic that NASCAR has now become a "driver's" series? For all intents and purposes it's a big spec race now, so more than ever, driving ability, timing, and strategy play in to winning, cause the equipment is the same except for the headlight stickers.

Of course, the powers that be in NASCAR, and God (a close second) also come into play
