Isn't it sort-of ironic that NASCAR has now become a "driver's" series? For all intents and purposes it's a big spec race now, so more than ever, driving ability, timing, and strategy play in to winning, cause the equipment is the same except for the headlight stickers.

At Daytona and Talledega, I don't believe it's a driver's series at all. The fact that they can now drive more places laterally just means they are going foot-to-the-floor and able to point the thing wherever they want. There's no strategy other than a small amount by the crew chiefs near the end, and that's simply to get you in the top 12 or so. After that it's simply and completely dumb luck, IMHO.

It might be better at tracks where you actually have to lift, or *gasp*, brake. Time will tell, but if the pinnacle of the sport sucks so bad, I don't think I care.

The jet dryers are used at other track yet this is the first time I have heard of such a problem.

Im just sayin'

Glad to see they've finally shoved some dirt around...

If they don't we'll all wish that patience had been the watchword when it comes to this very important issue... sure hope they're not too impatient and try to make some unrealistic schedule as many tracks have been known to do...

I seriously doubt there's much chance of being able to host an event there before 2009.

That's a fact... and hopefully they won't screw it up rushing... like a few more months at this point is... well, the point...

Only track I'm personally aware of that got away with no curing time was the infield course at Lowes (nee Charlotte Motor Speedway)... we ran an IMSA weekend event there two days after it was finished... and there were them honking GT cars with steam roller tires and eye popping brakes...

Steve 'get it right the first time if ya can' Coleman

PS: Not that I'm real good at that... just like to see it happen that way... ;)

Just took a look at the High Rock site and it now has 2009 all over it as opposed to Fall 2008 like it use to have.

"Currently under construction with a tentative opening date of 2009, High Rock Raceway will be the first and only dedicated road course in North Carolina."

Uhhh...

"...will be the first and only dedicated road course in North Carolina."

Really... I guess 'stadium road courses' don't count...

Now if it said... 'natural-terrain' road course...

Recently hosting a roundy round ARCA race does kinda affect that "dedicated road course" thing ...

Went past the High Rock location this past Wednesday and snapped a few pics. The first ones are from the backside of the track looking over the terrain towards the water towers (you can faintly see them in the second pic).

To me, the progress on the site doesn't look any different than in the photos from earlier this year in the first post. There was a guy near the construction office near the water towers, but he was talking to a local deputy so I didn't bother going over.

This is from the Hwy 29/70 side of the complex about 400 yards from I-85:

Not at all, Stacy. I was getting high hopes that this would happen, but having a track less than 45 minutes from my house may be a pipe dream. Hopefully it will come through one of these years.

Thanks for the update. FWIW, here's a recent article about it: http://www.salisburypost.com/Area/102408-Risdon-speaks-about-raceway-to-civitans. Supposedly "Vanderbilt Commercial Lending", http://www.vanderbilt-lending.com/home.html, is going to provide financing for this project, but in the current climate, it's hard to imagine any commercial lending company fronting $30M for a facility like this one. I'm guessing it's going to be a while (if ever?) before this happens.
