Latest update... note the re-paving of just about all hard cornering zones, including what looks to be the entire carousel. :D

These are flyover shots taken by NASA-SE director Jim Pantas:

They have noted on their website that paving is complete. Aeriel photos and close-ups look good.

I'm glad you mention it.... I will inquire as to how much it will cost. I'm thinking it might be something perfect to do on Friday (if not all weekend). I'll get with Mark and the guys and see if we can't make it happen. I'm sure it will be available, kinda depends on what they want to charge for it.

I think that the change to turn 12 is excellent! I've ALWAYS felt that if they just change that turn to some kind of sweeper then I'd be happy. I'm even OK with leaving turn 14 as it was since pit lane is right there!

Like Karl and Donnie and others the racing I did there, while not a lot, was fun! Especially late braking anyone for turn 11. But it was tough on equipment. The changes they are doing show me a couple things.

First, CMP listens to their customers and is willing to make changes.

Second, they are serious about turning it into a track more folks will want to use.

What more can we ask for from a track?

CMP. BRAVO!!

Ron

Now for some actual video footage of the new layout:

Click on the screen shot to the left and download the short video. Very cool!

Wow not only did they change 12 to 14 but they laid in new pavement in most of the turns! I am actually looking forward to going there!

Is is my understanding from someone who drove there last weekend that the track is now even HARDER on equiptment. Like that's possible?!?!

Turn 8 has been paved, so you are now much faster through that turn which of course means you likely have more speed going into 11.

With the redesign, you are now scrubbing off SIGNIFICANTLY more speed at 14.

They opened up 14 a bit, allowing you to carry a little more speed onto the front straight, but that means you're now having to scrub more speed for turn 1.

I was extremely displeased with the pictures of the pads I saw after 6 20-minute sessions.

Why you gotta be a party-pooper Matt?

I haven't heard it put like that yet... I've heard lap times have gotten quicker by anywhere from 4 to 6 seconds and that the new T12-T14 is more Roebling-ish.

I'm not buying the faster in T11 because T8 is faster. Most cars will not be able to carry much more speed through the kink than they already did. The high HP cars already had to scrub off some speed before it... I'm not a good example, but I imagine most low HP cars were already in top gear through the kink as it was.

As far as T14... if you watch any of the videos that have come out since the re-configure, you'll see that almost everyone STILL takes the ultra-late apex and has not yet learned to use the additional 16 feet of asphalt on the inside of the turn. I would think (hope?) that the amount of speed needed to scrub off would be about the same as before, only this time, your entry and exit speeds are going to be a certain amount higher. For example, whereas before, you might brake from 90 down to 40... now, in theory, it would be from 100 to 50 (arbitrary, completely guessing at the numbers to make my point.) So again, I don't see how it should be any harder on brakes?

Physics: You fail...

Kinetic energy increases with the SQUARE of velocity (KE=1/2*M*V^2)

You have much much more kinetic energy at 100mph than 90mph. So even if you scrub off the same 50 mph, you are scrubbing off a whole lot more kinetic energy....

A very quick guestimation on excel says 15% more KE for a 2800lb car....

Fair enough... so why is it any harder on brakes than VIR T1 or T4 or T14?

FWIW... CMP's never been any harder on any of my cars' equipment than anywhere else (actually better on tires than Roebling Road)

And who ever said driving on track was supposed to be EASY on equipment anyway? Isn't that part of the challenge? To drive fast and efficient?

Q: so why is it any harder on brakes than VIR T1 or T4 or T14?
A: Cooling time.

After turn 1, you have a tap for Nascar. You're hitting them decently for Left Hook, but how fast are you going there (remember the formula for kinetic energy)? I'm not even at the top of 3rd gear yet at that point. After that, when do you hit the brakes again? A mile later for Southbend? And that's knocking ~15mph off. Some are less. The braking for Oaktree is uphill, as is the braking for Rollercoaster. So on a 3.2mile track, I can find 3 good hard braking points, 2 of which are uphill. How many are there at a 2.2mile CMP? 4? More?

VIR=not all that hard on brakes. Not even close to CMP.

Cooling time.....

Will agree with Roebling and tires, especially the left front....

Ron's DL-1 said he was going ~48 mph IIRC in Left Hook.
