Thinking about this:

http://www.redlinetrackevents.com/cp/scripts/prodList.asp?idCategory=27

Anyone have any comments +/- about how they run events or Summit Point? Haven't been there in ages since watching my brother race.

Thanks!

Well Summit Point isn't right across the street for your first track event.

What about the PDX (HPDE) with the NCRSCCA at Rockingham in September? or the THSCC event there in October?

I'm 99% sure on the THSCC Rockingham event, I was just debating with myself whether I'd have more fun on a more open road course. VIR is really where I want to go, I'm just not seeing anything soon that isn't full already.

Not that I wouldn't have a blast at Rockingham, I'm just considering if time/$ works out where I only get to go to one HPDE this fall, where would it be.

Rockingham does had a few advantages. It's shorter (1.1 miles) so you'll get more laps. Also there are fewer turns to learn as a noob. You can spectate on the observation deck above the classroom and see the entire track. Also for some reason there are hardly any trains there. Oh yeah, the NASCAR garages are nice too.

Being that I'll be at Summit Pt. tomorrow morning with NASA...I'll speak up.

From a facilities perspective, Summit is a dump. I haven't been to CMP, but I've been told it is nicer than CMP at least. Summit Pt. the town is really nothing, and all the hotels are the better part of 20 miles away (Winchester, VA; Charlestown WV; Martinsburg, WV). You can usually camp at Summit for free or very cheap, though.

From a track perspective, things look up very quickly. It's fun and challenging and has decent runoff room in most turns with the exception of T 10. It's a fun track to drive, no question. I haven't been this season yet, but I've heard that the surface has deteriorated a good bit and gets a bit greasy on a hot afternoon.

I have yet to run a Redline event, but I have a few friends that have done it. They're catered more for the experienced driver with a focus on the timed event. You are guaranteed to see some interesting hardware there.

For a novice, I'd skip the Redline event. Run a THSCC event, Audi club, Mazda club, Trackdaze or something that isn't so race focused. While I do run and enjoy NASA events, you don't get as much track time as an HPDE student, and their schedule is very very tight. It's impressive how much they manage to work in during a day.

FYI, the NCRSCCA HPDE event at Rockingham has only 24 students signed up. The event is only two weeks away.

You are sure to get lots of open track with that few entries. You can register on-line here.

Edit. I see there is a Miata registered in ESP.

Hmm - think I can do like Bernie and run Sanford, then shoot down there?

I think if not, I'm running the HPDE 8)

Summit is absolute blast to drive, the facilites are pretty bad, and the distance to hotels kinda sucks, but I think you should make the trip ta least once to summit, it is really fun a challanging to drive on that track (summit main)

Registered for The Rock next weekend :)!

I just saw on the flyer a big bump in price depending on when you registered, but it wasn't on myautoevents - does anyone know if they'll use the price listed on myautoevents?

I'm pretty sure it says the late fees are waived on the website.

Steve... Time Attack is pretty-much time trials... but more like how we used to do it: two or three cars out at a time, trip-light timing, warm-up, one to three timed laps, then a cool down.
