I will be at the 2/10-11 VIR Full event. I have been watching some videos to get more familiar with the track layout, but I was wondering if someone could talk their way around the track and discuss the intricacies turn by turn. Better yet, do it as if you are driving a low HP (106HP at the flywheel) front wheel drive car.

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

Richard:
I have a hard copy of Perter Krause's turn-by-turn analysis of VIR-Full, but can't find it on the 'net anywhere. Regardless if you have it before or after your first day on VIR-F, it's still a great read. I use it to both prepare and review my days at VIR-Full.

Someone in The Club may have it in electronic format. I'll ask around.

Here's a link to Peter Krause's writeup. It's the one that I use.

Look under "Intructor's Corner".

Thanks, Rob!
Although my original includes pictures through the windscreen :)

I think I got it at my first VIR-F event 4 years ago.

Well, I'm used to 400hp RWD, but I'm sure it applies well to a low HP FWD car too...two places to never lift: turn 10 and hogpen. NEVER lift in 10...if you ever come in too hot, hold steady throttle and open up the steering lock and drive off the outside of the turn. I can't count the number of cars who have done the opposite, spun and hit the inside Armco...so many that VIR moved it back some distance last year to make room for the lifters. :) I think one HPDE in 2005 caught both a Carrera GT and a GT3 there...both drivers lifting and spinning off to the inside into the Armco doing some significant damage.

Same thing with Hogpen...if you're in too hot, open up the lock and drive off the outside. Many have lifted in Hogpen, spun, and hit the Armco along the entry to the pits.

On the contrary -- I regularly side-step the throttle in hogpen in my stock M3 to try to over come the evil understeer of the stock suspension :) All the while chanting "Please god make it oversteer ... please god make it oversteer".

Advanced technique, not recommended to any first-timer or anyone driving a car that actually handles properly (and no, a stock M3 does not handle properly)

when all at once the car becomes light at the bottom of hogpen and it seems to be headed somewhere unfriendly. naaaahhhh, never had that happen.
