Greetings:

Brad Mackey has just closed a major sponsor deal with
the US Distributor for Ferodo Racking Brake Pads
Essex Parts Services http://www.essexparts.com

Club Members will receive jobber discounts, initially on
Ferodo Brake Pads, later expanded to other products.

THSCC now has a high performance brake pad supplier for
ALL OF OUR CLUBS PROGRAMS:
- AUTOX
- HPDE
- TIME TRIAL
- RALLY CROSS
as well as High Performance street and OEM replacement

Over the next several days I will be working with Ryan Holton,
Bowie, and our TZC counterparts putting in place what is necessary
so that we can start placing orders and receiving our substantial
club discount on brakes.

Expect more detailed announcements on this in the very near future.
IF you need brakes for this season-please hold out a few days before
placing your order.

See Ya On Track!

Mark V

Just to add to what Mark has announced, this new relationship with Essex Parts was put together over the past few weeks during discussions with Essex Parts owner Ken Gordon, myself and Mark.

We feel we have initiated a true partnership with Ferodo, a world-class brake manufacturer, and their exclusive US importer Essex Parts.

We have promised Essex Parts that our membership will respond, as we have in the past with other sponsors, to their generous sponsorship package with support in the form of purchases of Ferodo and the other performance brands that they carry. Remember, Essex Parts is an Importer and Distributor, not a retail outlet, so they will be able to offer a larger selection of performance merchandise right off the shelf in their warehouse.

Even more important, they are headquartered in Cramerton, NC, just west of Charlotte, so shipping time would generally be next day via UPS Standard Ground!

We intend making this is a high-visibility relationship, which will associate THSCC with perhaps the premier competition brake manufacturer in the world. We are fortunate to have their support, and need to return it in kind.

This is a good deal for Club Members. So, next time you have a requirement for brakes, remember to give them a call. We will be furnishing more information to our members as we work out the details. Have a look at their website: http://www.essexparts.com/.

Tuesday Jan 23 Update:

I just got our membership list from Mary E (thanks!) and merged it with
the one from TZC. Will sent it to Ferodo tonight with their
invoice. I expect they will be ready to start taking orders in
a few days or as log as it takes to input the names in their
database. That was the only thing holding up orders.

I have 175 Catalogs and decals comming-but there is a lot of
info on various Ferodo's resellers web sites with a description of
their compounds. They have come a long way from the DS11
days. Friction coefficiants on the race pads are way
up there. Race cerametic and a street compound listed as well.

All of the stuff we publish has to be approved by the sponsor before
we put it up-so be patient. IT's a done deal. I got 3 sets to order
(race pads for the Scirocco and street & race pads for the Corvette)
my self as soon as our accounts are set up.

Ferodo Sponsor Update:

Brad is busy working out the details for putting our ordering
mechanism in place and getting approvals for any artwork we
display. This is a new experience for all of us working with
a major sponsor-things just don't happen overnight.

The sponsor has to input all our members in a database before we can start placing orders. They are serious about members only and not the general public for any Ferodo discounts, so please be patient.

We will mail out a flyer to announce when they are "open for
THSCC business. It will consist of a THSCC specific price list and
contact info.

New members will be submitted to Ferodo on a monthly basis.

Brad is the single point of contact for Ferodo so we all don't but
the US importer/distributer to death. So basically let Brad do his
thing, it will get done and it will be worth it.

See Ya On Track!

Edit: Im gonna remove the Z key from Mark's keyboard

Ferodo is now taking orders from THSCC-TZC members on record
as of Jan 15 2007.

Click on the Ferodo logo and it will take you to essex parts & services
web site where oders can be taken via phone or fax.

when the catalogs and price lists arrive we will distribute them.
I've asked Brad to put together a flyer to send to the list as well.

I just orderd two sets of 3000 compound for the Scirocco and
a set of 3000+ for the Corvette/Wilwood.

See Ya on Track.

Essex is not starting off on the right foot with me. I ordered the pads Friday and called back today when they didn't show up yet. I was told "I forgot to hit the print button, and the order didn't get processed".

Sponsor or not, they'd better be here tomorrow or I'll take my business elsewhere.

I was not happy with thier (DS-2500) longevity (performance was fine) so I switched to Hawks. Like anything else, it depends on who you ask. I know Ron wasn't happy with his Ferodos either.

Personally, I go for performance over longevity, especially with brake pads :-) I am guessing I get 2.5 weekends out of the DS2500, about the same as the Hawks. And I as many will a test, I really like to compress the bake zone. Doing that with a 3205# car will wear out pads pretty quick.

The DS2500's have never locked the front wheels nor have I ever experience any fade. Only once have the brakes gone into ice mode. That was turn 1 at VIR. I just had to move the braking zone back a few yards.

Jury still out on the Ferodo 3000 on the Scirocco.
When I changed to rear disks I needed to increase M/C bore size.
May have gone too big as the car needs a lot pedel effort to stop.
Having violated Carol Smiths Golden rule #1 :never change more than
one thing at a time, I can't say it's the M/C or the 3000 pads that caused
this difference. On paper, cf of .61, they should work as well as the Hawk HT10. Just to be safe I have a set of Hawk HT10 on order for CMP and nothing will be better than a back to back test at CMP.

Corvette: The new Ferodo ultimate track pad is ceramic. I don't want to
run them on the same rotors as carbon kelvar & metalic pads so I'm
waiting on new Coleman rotors for the Vette to test with. I
learned that lesson years ago testing with Carbotech. Race pads
require embeding brake material into the rotor surface-but you don't
want to mix dissimilar pad material in your rotors. I'm not a
big fan of ceramic brakes-but I'm trying to be open minded and
let the data decide in a fair and proper test.

I have the DS2500's on my car. Can't really comment on them compared to other pads. I really romped on them hard. The pads took the beating but my rotors got heat stressed and are riding pretty rough.

Ive heard that Hawks tend to be a little harder on the rotor. Does this mean they will take some of the rotor material away or just heat them up more? Im thinking that if I have a pad that will "sand" the rotor down a little more I can perhaps wear off some of the heat spots. Or am I talking crazy?

OK I don't currently own a track car and don't intend to for the foreseeable future, but still. I thought I remembered Brad Mackey telling me at the hotel at Roebling that the 2500 is a street pad? Maybe that's why you guys are having such wear problems?

On my S2000, I have Hawk HP Plus pads at all four corners. Like every other set of Hawks (usually Blues) I've ever owned, they're a little hard on rotors, need a little heat in them, and the dust, unfortunately, turns into a light coating of rust on the inside of my wheels. And boy do they dust! It's incredible. Whitney and I cleaned the wheels on the S2000 before the last autocross at Laurinburg. After *ten autocross runs* the wheels were dusty again - very dusty! It's incredible.

I will say this though...they stop the car sensationally.

So I know this is the track section, but I'll ask this anyway. Anyone using Ferodo 2500s on a street car? Much as I like the way the Hawks feel, I could certainly live without the noise and the dust, and would be willing to try another option - especially from a club sponsor.

DS2500 is indeed a glorified street pad, much like HP+. And like HP+, I thinks it's too dusty/noisy for the average Joe on the street, and doesn't have enough fade resistance to be any use on track to anyone beyond novice group.
