saw a mid 90's E36 on Louisburg Rd today. 2 door might be a 318 however. $3900.

PJ, here is my opinion for what it is worth, I am trying to be content with driving my daily driver is schools until I get to the point I want to do TT. It is very reliable and faster than I need so it is very fun on the track. With it being a relatively new car I think I will have less maintance worries and the only expense is tire and brakes which you will have with anything. I agree with the thought that you should try a full school or two with that car before you take the enormous loss on selling a relatively new car. I will echo something Ron Spencer told me, spend your money on track time as opposed to mods on a car.

My DD, HPDE, TT car are all one in the same. I couldn't justify starting over with mods on another whole different car. So I added the safety equipment to make it TT legal. It still works fine as my DD unless someone wanted to ride in the rear seat. It's possible but they'd have to be really short....uh like PJ!

IOW PJ, keep the R32, add the safety equipment and you are all ready. Or skip the safety equipment and just run the HPDE portion of track events. All your car needs really is a good set of brake pads anyway.

It's a '92 318. It was in decent condition (although I didn't have a way to look or run the engine). I saw $3900 and pulled in to look. If it had been a 325 or 328, I probably would have jumped on it as a daily beater to RTP. I'd like to keep the miles off of the M3.

Rob,

Slotted rotors? Are you prepping an Altima for the track?

Nothing wrong with a 318i- especially for a commuter/beater, the fuel mileage will be better than a 325i or 328i too!! I would steer clear if it's an auto tranny though.......
Not that they are that prone to break, but a 5 speed is much more fun to drive in that car.

More info from NASA Mid Atlantic website about working + getting driver credits. Basically, the info posted by David Teague is still correct- work 2 full weekends, drive one weekend free. Not a bad deal IMHO...
