Out of curiosity, does anyone know the length of the back (front) straight on VIR South? (i.e. from Oak Tree to the Bitch)

If you're doing South course the straight is 3000ft. If you're doing Full it is 4000ft. Give or take a few feet. If you want some good course maps you need to look at the old section of their website. Instead of the fancy new one with interactive junk. It's got a simple map, topographical, and my favorite Plainmetric view. In JPG and PDF. Get the PDF versions they rescale easier.

OK guys... how's this for an update (kinda)

Posted on NCEuro.org:

Hello Everyone,
I have found your wonderful website and I will make sure I keep posting updates as we move along. I was reading the forum and it looks like there are alot of excited people out there waiting for us. Well some "Official News" on the track. We have started sales of the "Race Condos" and it's moving along VERY well. We have sold or "reserved" 87 units so far of the first 120. This means if you want to get one, you better do it pretty quick. We are planning to have our last "sales event" at Richard Childress Vineyards on April 24th or 25th and everyone is welcome to attend to see the maps, get a brochure or put in your reservation. We also allow groups to purchase units so get your partners and come on up. We are also suggesting that you drive your sports car and show off at the Vineyard that night. It will be fun. Also meet some of our staff at the event. The plans are to cut dirt in May, pave in September and open in Feb. 08. We are not behind until after June. Then it starts to get sticky. I will try to post updates here as I can, but we also updated the website and will keep making improvements to the site including a news and events page coming this week also. Thanks for the kind words about the track and it is going to be awesome for everyone.

Take care and safe driving!

An update from High Rock appeared redently in the Corvette Forum
as follows, and yes, I have been in contact with the "new" manager:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello Everyone,
I am Alan Winninger, Business Development Dir for High Rock Raceway in Spencer, NC and I was reading your forum and wanted to fill you in on some great and current information on the track.

I have found that there are hundereds of forums talking about us, and that is great as we are just as excited about opening next year as you are.

We plan to break ground in June and pave the track in September and open in Feb. 2008. The website www.racehighrock.com has all the latest information on the track and the best place to get the most current news and updates is the news page. The link is in the top right corner of the site. I will try come back and answer any questions you may have, but please check the website. I will tell you that we are almost 100% sold out in the first phase of condo units. We have about 15 left from what I was last told. The units are available for reservations and you can get more info on purchasing a condo by sending a email to info@racehighrock.com . They have been going quickly and we will have some more exciting news coming very soon.

Also, just to let all the Chevy fans know. We had tried to work an agreement with Chevy on making them the official car/truck of the track and have not had any luck with them because of the local dealers. We would love to have the Corvette as the "Official U.S. Car" of the track. Since we have alot of european influence being placed on the track we will have an "Official European Car" which has already been selected and will be announced soon. So if you know anyone (or the right person) at Chevy, or Corvette corporate I would love to talk to the right person as it seems I keep being placed in the wrong circle. (pardon the pun).

Thanks again and we look forward to having your clubs to the track next year.

Apparently building of condo's are now linked to building of the race
track. We will see what happens.

Cheers

We can hope...

While things are certainly different than in the past, I'll believe it when I pull outta the pits for the first time...

One thing it certain... don't know how many saw the 'original' proposed track layout, but it sucked IMO... as a 'student' and 'designer' of race track layouts it's my opinion that the new layout produced by EFR is a major improvement based on the published plans, however the real proof will be on the ground...

OCTJMO, ICBW...

When I look at this track. I see the front section looks an awful lot like Roebling and the back section looks like Jefferson Point. I'm sure the nuances are very different. Just looking at the overhead.

Rotate Laguna the proper way and all you see is Marge Simpson's head. I'm not sure how much you can criticize a track based on a layout on paper. There's no camber shown, probably no elevation change, no width, no curbing (or type of curbing), no surface type, probably no type to the runoff room (is it deep gravel, sand, grass, what?), etc, etc, etc.

I can tell right away from a 5 second look at the proposed layout that it is NOT an Alan Wilson design.

Thank God.

They mention the 10 plus acre paved paddock area. Has anyone contacted them to see if that is going to be an autocross friendly paddock? And maybe encouraged them not to fill it with light poles, curbs and trees for decoration?

And maybe to even put in more than one way in / out!

Just a thought.

Another post off of NCEuro.org:

SOLD OUT! There are no more condo units available for sale. Sorry folks. The reason things have been very quiet is because things are about to get real loud. The track progress is coming along nicely. We are looking for a possible ground breaking date which will be announced soon.

The other great thing is we have MERCHANDISE! Finally, we will have hats, visors, polo shirts, and embroidered t-shirts for sale in the next few weeks, so make sure you check the website. We also will be posting some real cool wallpaper which is a surprise. I am sure you "guys" will like it. Sorry ladies, no sexy men yet to pose for us.

The fun is about to start. We did the noise testing a few weeks back and that went really great. The train was louder then us if you can believe that. Damn trains, they will be so loud we figure that you won't be able to hear the cars on the track (laugh).

The track site also got some clearing and from first looks at some of the elevations its going to be a true blast. There is some other major things coming up, but I am sorry I haven't posted in awhile as I have been busy and not hearing from me sometimes is a good thing. That means I have time to write here and that means I have to much time on my hands. I have been busy setting up my at&t Iphone (Shameless Sponsor Plug). We are moving along well. Make sure you check the website for all the latest updates in the news section.

Thanks everyone and Drive Safe!
Alan

I can't help it guys... and I am SO getting my hopes up for this thing.

ZBA HEARING SCHEDULED FOR HIGH ROCK RACEWAY!

We need you at the Hearing on August 2nd

We are happy to report that our Town of Spencer, North Carolina, Zoning Board of Adjustment (ZBA) hearing has been scheduled for Thursday evening, August 2nd, at 7:00 p.m. at the Town of Spencer Municipal Building Board Room (see below for address). This hearing is for the ZBA to hear and vote upon High Rock Raceway’s request for a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) to operate a Country Club Racetrack at its 200 acre property located at 2555 Highway 29 North in the Town of Spencer.

We would like to invite all of our supporters to attend this meeting and demonstrate to the Town of Spencer and the ZBA their overwhelming enthusiasm for High Rock Raceway. Your attendance at this meeting is important because we do anticipate opposition from Ann Brownlee and the Trading Ford Historic District Preservation Association and their lawyer, Darrell Fruth of the Greensboro, North Carolina law firm of Brooks, Pierce, McLendon, Humphrey & Leonard, LLP.

The Track is not on a Civil War Battlefield

Ms. Brownlee and her lawyer have made objections at prior ZBA hearings pertaining to High Rock regarding the details of our CUP application, such as the proper labeling of buildings on the site plan. They have focused on the details of the application in the hopes of stalling our efforts and deflating our will to move ahead with our project. With the help of our lawyers and site engineers, we have submitted an extremely well-detailed and complete CUP application. Once our application is found to be sufficient, Ms. Brownlee and her lawyer will be left to make their arguments regarding the issues at hand.

Ms. Brownlee claims that the proposed location of our racetrack is the heart of a Civil War battlefield. This is patently false and as Ms. Brownlee knows, and as we have confirmed with well-recognized experts in the field, the Civil War skirmish to which she refers took place on the railroad trestles near (but not on) our property. Ms. Brownlee is infamous for delaying projects in the Trading Ford area, including the planned construction of a new Interstate 85 bridge that was to cross the Yadkin River between Rowan and Davidson Counties and would have replaced the existing bridge – which was built in 1955 and is now considered functionally obsolete. Because the bridge has not been replaced, Interstate 85 now dangerously funnels into two lanes on each side of its Yadkin River crossing, causing numerous traffic accidents. What was initially a $175 million budget to build a new Yadkin River bridge is now estimated at $350 million.

Who is Stephen Horton and why is he helping Ann Brownlee?

Ms. Brownlee does not own land adjacent to High Rock Raceway and she is not a resident of the Town of Spencer. She has however demonstrated that she will go to any extreme to delay or stop projects in or around the Trading Ford area. She has in the past admitted that she receives little in donations to fund her cause, yet somehow she has retained Mr. Fruth, who has stated publicly that he is being paid for his work on this matter. We understand that a Mr. Stephen Horton of the Richmond, Virginia office of McGuire Woods Consulting originally hired Mr. Fruth on behalf of Ms. Brownlee. Mr. Horton is a lobbyist with McGuire Woods and works on behalf of conservative causes in Virginia.

Mr. Horton, who to our knowledge has never demonstrated any interest or concern whatsoever for historical causes in North Carolina, has stated that he is working pro-bono on behalf of Ms. Brownlee. Mr. Horton, who was Chief of Staff for the Virginia Governor, Republican Jim Gilmore (served from 1998 to 2002), worked within the Governor’s administration with Joshua Lief, who served as Secretary of Commerce for Governor Gilmore and is now General Manager of Virginia International Raceway – High Rock’s nearest potential competing venue to the North.

We will continue to move ahead!

Despite any obstacles to our progress that Ms. Brownlee, Mr. Fruth or Mr. Horton may attempt to throw in our way, we will move ahead with determination. We have in the past received the full support of the Aldermen and the ZBA of the Town of Spencer. Over 1,300 individuals have signed the Support the High Rock Raceway petition (see below for site address) and thousands visit our website (www.racehighrock.com) each month. High Rock Raceway represents the redevelopment of an abandoned textile mill and new growth in an area that has been long-neglected and is dire need of economic stimulus. High Rock will help spark growth in the surrounding area, will represent a significant increase in the tax base for the Town of Spencer and will bring racing enthusiasts from throughout the United States and abroad to the Town of Spencer.

WE THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUING SUPPORT!

PLEASE ATTEND THE ZBA HEARING ON AUGUST 2ND AT 7:00 P.M. AND, IF POSSIBLE, ARRIVE AS EARLY AS 6:30 P.M. TO SHOW YOUR SUPPORT AS THE ZBA MEMBERS ARRIVE. FEEL FREE TO BRING PLACARDS DECLARING YOUR SUPPORT FOR HIGH ROCK RACEWAY!

THANK YOU!

Dave Risdon
majority owner and developer
High Rock Raceway

Oooh... conspiracy theory.... the plot thickens.... ;-)

Someone needs to just kick that old broad and her silly-a$$ed preservation society to the side of the road. She's already burning the tax payers with causing issues with I85 itself...
