Geez I'm so fast Stacy can't even keep my car in the center of the frame! I did notice he didn't have that problem with Ryna though. :P I'm must have slowed down in the TT for some reason. Stay tuned for VIR-F for a rematch young grasshoppa!

Thanks for the pics Stacy!

LOL yeah, I named that one VK2fast hehe... let me know if you want a full-res version... sorry about the cropping issue... the sun was harsh where I was at... the ones taken of the infield were taken using 5.3x zoom (3 of that optical). Soo it was REALLY hard to see what I was taking a picture of on that little Cannon

Sorry Marty. I scanned the video and I did not see you. Your line must not have been too far off.

OK...this one's for Mark Cooper.

This is from the TT on Sunday. Mark provides us with a perfect example of maximum trackout as he comes out of fish-hook! Good job Mark!

Matthew,

Thanks for the cool video! Too bad it wasn't showing how hard it was to chase down a Miata rather than how easy to pass one!

Stacy,

Nice picture on the back straight. Thanks man!

I didn't think I was allowed to pass in the turns.
I was trying to keep good distance between us, but I felt like I was getting a little too close in turns 3 & 4. I was only running on street tires...not even max performance. What were you shod with?

Looking at the videos again, I think that double apex line is slowing you down, but I'm just a newb.

I was running on 14" Azenis 215 Sports. Big swaybars front and rear, Koni yellows and stock springs.

About the double apex line, yeah maybe overall it was slower. My instructor and I were playing with it and the rim shot line to see which was fastest. We were using the service road to the left at the end of #4 track out as a marker. Based on watching the tach, I could usually be running about 200 rpm more at that point than I would using a rim shot.

I followed a car or two for a couple of laps and tried both lines. It didn't really seem to matter which line I took, I still would be about the same distance back, not closing. My time trial time got slower on Sunday. Saturday I used a rim shot line, Sunday the double apex.

I thought about it afterwards and decided maybe the method we used for gauging speed wasn't that great. It didn't account for if you were slower or faster through turn 3. I doubt if I'll double apex next time.

I will assume everyone is talking about the Fish hook and the double apex. I feel the key to doing the double apex line is to brake, turn in and do a medium rim shot but, and this is the important point, accelerate to the second turn in (where I had placed the cone on the left). You then do some braking again to rotate the rear end a bit. I left foot brake here . Its VERY difficult to get the correct amount of rotation.

What I just described is a VERY advanced maneuver and not something that I think can be pulled off by even a high experience level yellow group person. You are really hanging the car on the left rear and too much speed, not making enough of a straight for the second braking or over rotation will end your fun in that corner. No real fear of hurting anything but your lap times.

Its a quite difficult turn to get through fast but the payoff is that the extra speed is carried all the way to the braking point for 5. In reality I think the most time can be made up on turns 3 (the turn into the infield) and turn 5. 5 is MUCH faster than it looks but a mess up here can be really bad. Lots of hard stuff not that far away.

Lets play again next year!

Ron

I found the biggest challenge for me on turn 5 was the gravel that got kicked up in that area. I got more tentative. There were near boulder-sized rocks at one point!

Heck they were on the unloaded side of the tires. The other thing to think about is its not terribly important where on track you exit turn 5....as long as its not in the marbles on the extreme left edge. My goal is to exit 5 on pavement. And have enough room to get the car settled to break hard for 6/7.
