The video posted is very helpful, but as the event nears, I would like to see if there is anyone with any experience that could write "a lap around the track" like we have for some other venues. Markers, trouble spots, other memories also welcome.

I know we have one member at the very least who could do this. :D

Ok, this is written from a low-horsepower point of view. (think Civic or Miata)

Start finish will be crossed in 4th gear, at the bottom edge of the banking. Draw a straight line to the outside wall, ending up track right shortly before the banking goes steep.

NASCAR 1-2 is driven with a single late apex, probably in 4th gear. You will apex at the bottom of the banking on a 2' x 2' (ish) concrete patch, then you will initiate a slight movement toward the outside. As the banking falls off for the back straight it will finish the job for you and snug you up to the outside wall. HUGE sensation of speed here.

Turn 3 has as many lines as it does drivers, but the SCHOOL line was always to brake in a straight line up on the banked backstraight, then make a late turn-in, attempting to cross the transition from banking to infield in a straight line. Take this in 3rd gear. You will apex 3 fairly late and then track out to the right as much as you need to. Ease back across track to the left to set up for 4.

4 is known as Fishhook, for obvious reasons. This is a decreasing radius right hand turn that will eat your left-front alive if you are greedy. It will also spit you 4 wheels off at the exit, waking up the worker standing 10 feet away. (Ask Captain Ron about that one!) I recall a single late apex, giving up some entry speed for a better exit onto the second fastest straight. Also take this in 3rd gear.

5 is a quick right that can be taken extremely quickly. Your speed through 5 is limited by your ability to get the car hauled down for 6/7. My favorite turn at this track.

6/7 is a tight left-hander that spits you back onto the banking. If you are greedy on entry here, you will end up driving UP the banking, and ruining your exit speed. The goal is to track out touching the edge of the bank, allowing it to catch and arrest your sideways progress and keeping you on the flat. Take this in 2nd or 3rd gear.

Stay on the apron until the track begins to flatten out, then ease up onto the banking and start a new lap.

Anyone remember this place any better than I do and care to add anything?

Bowie Jr.

Thanks Bowie... sounds like a blast... we're going to try to make it down for the November event. Hope it works out.

Bowie is pretty much right on. Except I have NO idea what he's talking about at the exit of fish hook......Here is a more condensed version.

Let the pits and try not to hit any cars on track.

When on the banking turn mostly left. Try not to hit the shiny white thing on your right.

Turn into the infield trying to stay mostly on track. You can drive the old school line and turn is as Bowie said or you can do something else.

To even out the turns turn mostly right in the infield except the last turn which is a left to get you used to turning left.

Try not to hit the shiny white thing on your right as you enter the banking.

Thats all. Simple!

A note on the fish hook. It makes the Bitch on south course loook like an increrasing radius turn. I think its when the bull dozer operator suddenly woke up and jerked right. I'd prefer to drink Budweiser then drive that turn.

If you just finished reading this its mostly what I'll talk about in class so bring some goodreading material with you.

If you try this line I have three words to say: Your signed off.

Now, if you force me to get serious then I will. Ill try to have track footage set up at registration so you can get a better look at the track. This is from years ago so don't get hung up on visual cues as they certainly have changed.

i'd prefer to drink Budwieser rather than argue about the utter sophistication of European brews and those pretentious enough to bring it up.

however, as i hate to read i will be listening in class, because i want to be able to enjoy my Budwieser cold and unscathed.

dude, really Bud is excellent when chilled properly.

The only way Bud could be chilled properly is if they froze the horses......

I looked at the schedule and see that there are orientation laps. Cool deal. However, I notice that it is listed as happening both days. Just wondering why we would need orienting after a day on track or is it that there are a decent enough group of Sunday only folks?
