Hi from the Bad Guy,

I just wanted to thank everyone for a great event at VIR this weekend. I just joined the club, and I was completely impressed with the level of professionalism and camaraderie that I experienced this weekend at the track.

This is a great club, and the guys running it sure seem like Top Notch Guys.

Thank you for the great experience, and sorry to any of the folks that I may have upset with my track etiquette (I'm working on it).

Jon

Kudos to everyone involved with organizing and running the HPDE and time trial this weekend. It was my first time running on track w/THSCC, and I also was very impressed with how seamless and professional it all looked. All the hard work by those involved certainly shows. Great job guys!

 to Mark V and ALL the other guys running the show! This was another fantastic event. Yes, we had a few issues behind the scenes, but they were dealt with as needed.

I had a great time, in spite of a freak? 100+ mph spin that I'm still trying to figure out. I'm no two events in and haven't blown the engine. I got all freaked out and pulled the valve cover to check lashes during the event, but all was well.

A lost header collector bolt was my worst mechanical. I carry spares...

Up next will be a topic on trailer tires. I've lost two in a week (both tread separation).

Scott

Bowie Sr. and I were talking as he was leaving the track, both of us rather amazed that this little independent sports car club was successfully hosting a 180 car school at a major racetrack. It's kind of unbelievable.

There's of course lots of folks involved but my own heartfelt thanks goes to our man Mark Vitacco. You simply can't imagine the amount of work this guy does to keep this thing going.

For me, the highlight of the weekend was riding shotgun with Matt Anderson in the four-door, front wheel drive Corolla in yellow group. Now *that* was a lot of fun. My arms are sore from holding myself in the car though...

Mark V and his staff definitely run a first class event. Thanks again to all of you for making it all happen. The schedule ran like clock-work with all the sessions starting and ending right on time.

After the little "talk" from the Captain on Sunday, track etiquette increased drammatically. All three of my Sunday sessions were great with good hand signals and generous point-buys from my fellow students. 8)

I can't wait to rin VIR-S this April. :woo:

Glad to hear everything went well. We were sorry to miss it, but it was unavoidable.

I had a great time my first time out. Granted, it was dampered when the engine let loose at 100+ going into uphill esses on my last session :( - AB

That does suck for sure Aaron. I had that same feeling when mine let go at our Rockingham AX two years ago.

Still engines, trannies, etc can be replaced...you cannot. You drove great all weekend and didn't hit anything. You made it home safe and sound which is always a good thing.

Thanks Vincent. I agree, it sucks, but a shortblock, or even a long block is cheaper than body work, and I can do it myself, which doesn't hurt. Safety is the key and I learned a lot over the weekend. Honestly, it could have been a lot worse if say I lost it at turn 10 or something like that :) - AB

I'm really glad everyone had a great time and looking forward to seeing so many (well, maybe not this many) people at VIR-S in April. Mark and Stacy really busted their hinies out there this weekend. And Adam, Keven, and crew did a great job with the TT Timing, despite having major issues.

Jon:

I'm gratified to read you statment today. Eric mentioned something
last night but hearing this from you is meaningful. We are not
ready to write you off just yet if you understand the
real issues at sake:
1) taking the uncertain/unknow element out of the driving equation
when driving high speed on track.
2) Making sure bad judgement on your part does not cause damage
or injury to someone else.
3) Preventing the things that trigger "red mist".
4) the devidends to be gained by earning the respect of your pears.
5) the resulting fun form getting the traffic flow right.
6) help break the typical "Corvette/Viper Driver" mith rather than
contribute to it.

We'll get it right next time.
