Now that I have a yellow car, it has all these black polka-dots all over it from tire worms on track. (This wasn't a problem with the BLACK car!)

I did a search and couldn't find a topic on what people use to clean that off with, though I feel like it's been discussed somewhere. Maybe it was pre-board days.

What do you use that is effective for cleaning tire marks (and maybe even other people's paint) off your track car?

Thanks in advance!

Diane ~ who will be painting the racecar black if it ever gets a full paint job again.

Brasso works wonders on cone marks; since rubber is rubber that might work for you. See Aaron Buckley for more details.

3M adhesive remover is very good. Breath in enough and you'll enjoy using it even more. Orange Blast from Greased Lightning is very good too, however, on rubber marks that you can feel as well as see (3D streaks) it will smear around before removing. Orange smell is much more gentle on the nose than the 3M stuff, however sense of mild euphoria is absent.

Brasso is the best at removing cone marks off any car. It will eat the wax away, so just remember to re-wax after using it. Apply it with a soft cloth. You can find it in most grocery stores. It is a brass cleaner and comes in liquid form.

Do not use it to remove cone marks from vinyl logos or graphics. It will discolor them. - AB

On the Porsche I'm using Mother's pre-wax cleaner it does a very good job
at removing these black mark.

Goo Remover. Buy it at home depot. Wax after using it. (you should keep the whole car pretty well waxed anyway, gotten get that .00001 second that a slick car gains you!)

Have been using it for years on the race car, no paint issues.

Hum... you're supposed to have wax on a racecar? Oops.

Thanks for the ideas. Keep em coming. Note that the high here is ~13* today. Something that works in the stupid cold would be nice. :)

this is what i was going to suggest. it even took the scuff marks off my wheel after i got in an accident. the scuff was basically the other guy's paint.

Turtle Wax Bug and Tar Remover works and is relatively gentle (so don't be in a hurry).

Interesting that Brasso works and doesn't screw up the paint. I used it as a Boy Scout and then as a GI to clean brass buckles. Seemed like it always left fine scratch marks . . .

The trick with Brasso (for me, on clearcoat) was to wash the car first, apply a thin coat of Brasso from the dingguard down, allow a haze to form, use a clean terry towel to remove haze then rewash that section.

i've had great luck using cleaner wax (i use meguiars)...it takes very little effort but it strips off any wax you have, so you'll need to wax the section afterwards (if you care)

luckily i have a dark track car now and really dont care about tire marks anymore

Ditto. The stuff is amazing. It's just some blend of noxious solvents, no abrasives. Probably causes cancer, but it doesn't leave a mark on the paint. I'm on my 3rd can since I discovered it 2 years ago.

They used Goof Off to get the spray tar crap off my Mustang (also yellow) when the contractor "forgot" to tell us he would be spraying that day. You do need to wax the car afterwards though.

But Ron, Yellow goes faster. Even if it is covered in tire dots.
