I would like to do a track school or two this season in my RSX. I have a set of Kumho MX's (220 treadwear) that I autox'ed with last season. 2 of the tires have about 1/32" of tread remaining on the outside, 2/32" on the inside (but I will definitely flip them). About how many, if any, track school events are left on these tires?

Also, what is that spray compound that can "refresh" tires?

Thanks.

It's not a spray, it's a roll-on. I've used "Formula Vee" with excellent results on Victoracers. I don't think it's designed for street tires so it's probably a waste for you.

Matt:

You should find track driving, espically at VIR, to be substantially
easier on tires than autocrossing. We typically heat cycle them out long before wear becomes an issue. I would expect 1/32 to 3/32" to last multiple schools possibly as much as the season, depending on how many events you do, weight of your car, how often you rotate them,
if its "camber challanged", Limited slip or not, etc etc .....bla bla bal....

Rockingham & Roebling is more abrasive than VIR and require
dillegance with tire rotation. Check the tires after each session
to see how often you should rotate & bring your normal road
tires for a rain/wet backup. Run 'em till they cord!

What'll that do for year old RA-1s with two track weekends and three autocrosses on them?

Well I brought my 4 year old Victor raceers back to life for sanford.. So I am sure it would do wounders for hte RA-1s.

The Kumho MX is a max performance street tire. I think you would be pushing it for the fronts depending on how aggressive you drive. If it's your first time out, you will have to learn the line and won't be pushing as hard so it may be OK but I would not chance it unless you have a second set of rims. I have had to get a Walmart special at CMP for the second day of a track event after cording a tire the first day.

Thanks guys. I do have an extra set of rims/summer tires I use for street so I will have something to fall back on in an emergency. And I probably will not be driving all that agressively as it is my first time out. Gonna go check and see whether there are spots left for the Feb VIR event!
