I'm prepping my BMW for time trials and need to get a fire extinguisher. The TT Tech Guide says the extinguisher must be Halon or Dry Chemical w/ABC rating. I checked I/O Port Racing and found their extinguishers are predominantly BC rated, found nothing saying ABC rating. My understanding is A rating is for combustible solids, like wood, so I'm wondering if maybe this is a typo in the tech guide. Assuming it's not, are there any small Halon extinguishers available that are ABC rated?

This is what I have, and it passes tech for SCCA Club Racing:

http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/Produc ... ?RecId=439

2.5 LB HALON 1211 FIRE EXTINGUISHER with BRACKET (H)

(5-B:C, USCG B:C Size I)
For race classes that allow a portable extinguisher rather than an integrated system, this quality unit is hard to beat. It features all-metal nozzles and includes an SCCA approved all-metal mounting bracket. This economical extinguisher is perfect for keeping in the pits, garage, trailer, home, car or boat. The DOT-approved steel extinguisher bottle is rechargeable. Overall height is approximately 15.3 inches.

Thanks, Marvin.

So if SCCA accepts BC rating, why does THSCC's Tech Guide say we must have an ABC rated extinguisher? Can anyone confirm whether this is a typo in the Tech Guide?

email Mark Vitacco and/or Ashraf Farag. We basically go by SCCA Solo I rules, and if it's legal by SCCA, I'm sure we'll pass it, as well.

Keith's right, there is a typo in the Guide it should be BC not ABC.
THe GCR refrence quoted is the spec and that's right. John is in
the process of updating the guide on the web site.

Sorry for causing you some confusion Keith.
