I thought I was awesome when Vincent's Mustang could not get away...
I would say he was just messing with you, but he's a Stig; there's no volume knob. As you mentioned in class, driving in Lemons (or Chump) conditions you to a whole bunch of bad "skills". I've had instructors for years taking a session or two to break me out of that mindset -- I actually do have a line, and it's ALL MINE, no one should be attempting to pass until I signal them to. Brian Wright was prodding me all weekend to stop giving up speed and track position to assist passing, a lemons habit because it's unsafe/unwise to assume what the overtaking car is going to do. That "abundance of caution" is rarely necessary at the advanced levels. I'll put together a video of several of my best point-bys (given and taken.)
On that note, I would rate the weekend as "Good". Not great, but that's all car, not THSCC. The tires we had on it Saturday were "well used" (they've had 12+hrs of VIR
this month, before this weekend) It's a fun game guessing how much traction I'll have at any moment. Sunday, on better tires, it developed an odd brake fade -- not good when your instructor is pushing to brake later, harder, and carry more speed. (T1 & T14 for me, T14 for Roger.) It was an awesome learning weekend trying various new things and learning how to sense "the limits".
As for Rich's driving, I hear it involves a voodoo witch doctor and a chicken. :-) Left foot brake to induce rear slip angle. How many times have I sat through that class?!? I'm at a point where I could probably do it on command, but it would be conscious effort, whereas Rich has enough experience to do it by reflex. "We" do something similar. (By we, I mean Robert and Roger McDaniels -- I rarely do it
on purpose; if I misjudge entry speed, as Ron would say,
the car does it.) The Duff civic is about the same weight/power as Rich's focus.
