I hope they don't just plant a tiny oak sapling in it's place. I am pretty sure it's possible to transplant much larger mature trees using those large spade trucks.

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

It depends on the particular tree, root system, and machine, but yes for a price it can and has been done. Back when I worked in the landscaping business (circa 1985) we used a guy based in Greenville (yes, we also have trees East of I-95) that could transplant a tree with a root ball almost 8 feet in diameter. His machine was awesome to watch in action. As you can imagine, it was quite pricey even back then, no telling what it would cost these days.

If there's a track that could afford it and pass along the cost to it's customers, it's probably VIR. :v

I had the same thought before I got to Jeremy's post.

Yeah, Blipshift is having an Oak Tree tribute Tshirt contest also. Will Morgan be bringing some to the combined MCAS event in August?

That one you can blame on Continental Tire Presents Grand American Le Mans Am Series.

No, you see putting the Start/Finish near T1 requires a tree that can't be seen from spectator areas due to the north timing tower to be taken out.

They are going to take every tree down on course. Probably put up some other hard object :(

North timing tower -- you mean the cupola on top of the admin building in the picture? Or is that whole building going away?

I watched a standing start of an amateur race from that tower once. Pretty good vantage point :)
