Hi everyone -- we're looking for a couple more crew members for the upcoming Chumpcar VIR 24 on August 10-11. This should be a straight 24 hour race on the grand course, no safety breaks. This will be Simon's 3rd year for the VIR 24, and coming from a 3rd place and a 1st place we'll be pushing pretty hard to do well again!

If you're interested in coming out and crewing, we could use a total of 3 people. During the overnight hours when one or 2 people start sleeping it becomes especially important to have a couple of crew. Duties will typically be Comm, fueler, and/or helper with driver changes. We have a 26' camper and 24' race trailer, both with AC, so plenty of places to relax, eat, sleep, etc between duties.

I responded to Jason via email, but I'm 90% certain I can help out. I have my own suit so I can help with fueling and whatnot.

I have also been in communication with Jason and would like to be involved. Sounds like a blast!

I'm a tentative yes for this as well. Let me double check with Laura to see if there isn't something going on that I forgot about. What days would you want us there? Fri/Sat/Sun or just Sat/Sun?

And I have a full fire suit as well if you don't have junk ones for us to use.

Mike, I might be able to as well. Need to check my calendar a bit more closely but if I'm available I will be there.

Wow, thanks for all the interest!!!

Tell y'all what ... just post up here if and when you're 100% confirmed that you can make it, and any limitations on arrive/depart, and we'll work up a not completely unreasonable schedule. No hurry, we have plenty of time at the moment. Like I mentioned, night owls for the overnight time are most appreciated. For example, I tend to like to drive 2-4am, then crash around 5am for a good 3-4 hours ... so you can see how having night owls + early morning capable people is good...

To put this in perspective, following is the plan we put together for last year's race. There will be changes for this year. The schedule is put together trying to leverage strengths, minimize weaknesses, give drivers plenty of time to prep and cool down, and a little bit of downtime.

C is Comm, OD is driver On Deck. X is driver cooldown, D is Drive, and S is sleep. We usually handle comm ourselves for the first 8-10 hours (when most of the glitches and gotchas occur), then hand over to crew later. This gives crew a lot of time to learn comm and flow.

Mike,

To follow up with the IM conversations we had earlier, I am now 100% confirmed as being able to do this. I will likely be onsite for the duration. I am pretty flexible regarding my work slot. I can say I will not be able to function for 24 hrs without sleep at some point! ;) If you end up with more volunteers than you need, I would like to hang out and observe if possible.

I am looking forward to this.

Richard

Cool! Richard, Andrew, and James -- you're on the hook. As we get closer to the event I'll reach out and start figuring out schedules. Plan for either Fri night / Sat AM (your choice) through Sun AM.

Feel free to participate in any of the other "Simon Says" schedule coming up to meet everyone, see the car, etc:

Sat June 8 - testing @ VIR
Sun June 16 - CMS prep day @ Mike's house (yes on Father's day)
Sat June 22 - CMS 10hr race + 4 sprints
I'm sure we'll have another couple of work days pre-VIR and probably a planning/strategy session too. Will report back here...

Nah, we don't need crew. We have it covered   I really _want_ to pour gas all over myself and have to take a shower with my drivers suit on again this year
