As for driving at night, LOL, it is fun if you have lights and know the track. If you have sucky lights (aka our cars) and know the track, it is an exercise in muscle memory and a massive amount of concentration.

After our car (Magnum, PU) DBU'd at about 2:00PM, our team stuck around to help The Silver Bullets (240SX) with their pit stops.

I was asked to drive an hour stint from 7:30-8:30 in their car and had a blast. I passed the Enterprise about 30 mins in and it was glued to my rear bumper for the rest of my session.

I couldn't figure it out at first since I know the driver (later Graham told me it was B. Settle) could have passed me anytime he wanted on the front straight. Once it got totally dark, I dechipered apparently his lights sucked, and mine didn't, so he was just playing follow the leader. The sad thing is I was driving the freaking wheels off this 240, and it handled pretty well, even with square tires. Anytime I looked in the mirror there was the Enterprises just riding along probably with his foot on the brake! Man was he wheeling that beast!

Vincent,

That was you in the 240? Bryan and I both commented after the race that the 240 was making some great laps late in the evening. Great job!

And yes, our lights suck BAD. I find myself latched onto others at times just so I can use their headlights. Heck, the lights on the truck are the ORIGINAL 1964 roundy headlights. We have tried to abide by the rules on that one and it is finally time to just give up and purchase the "see into next week" halogens that everyone else is running.

As for the contact with our cars, I have said it time and time again : there is no need in making contact with anyone, ever. I keep hearing excuses from my teammates and I continue to call BS on them. How can I (and Bryan) turn laps faster than all the rest of them and never touch another driver? It is called situational awareness and I have no tolerance for for it. Unfortunately, I am not the team captain.

-Kevin

Yeah, I was right behind the Sentra when that happened. It was like watching it in slow motion.

Kevin - whomever was in the truck that first session in the rain - I honestly think they couldn't see very well. I (driving the 240) got my nose chopped off by the truck, and saw it happen to several others. After seeing it happen that many times, I started to think that it wasn't being over-aggressive, but that they just couldn't see that well. I was SLOOOOOOW in the rain, and I know that the truck was a handfull, so it's easy to armchair quarterback from the drivers seat of something 30 years newer.

In the last hour and a half that would have been Randy, not me. I was driving the 7:30-8:30 session.

Halogens? You are a entire generation of headlights behind. We have all HID lights now. They are also stupid cheap. We converted our Hella 500s from halogen to HID for $60/pair and they are super bright.

I didn't see any contact during my stints and was actually suprised at how well most drivers dialed it back during the wet sessions. I had one close call, but was able to avoid contact by putting 2-wheels off on the outside of T6. I did get frustrated with one car in particular and was about 2 turns from using the old "chrome horn" to get his attention. I can't understand a car blocking me in the first hour of a 14-hour race.

That was Dwight, the builder of the truck. He always starts each race in the truck since it is his baby. No excuses for him other than to say the Chump races are the only seat time he gets each year. I took the truck in the second, still raining stint and I have driven it in the rain at Charlotte and CMP. It sucks. The windshield is 48 years old, the brakes lock up in a heartbeat, and there is at least 6 inches of play in the steering wheel. The side mirrors vibrate badly at speed and looking out the rear glass in the rain is impossible. The open truck bed is cool for the pits, but it quickly allows crap to get thrown up on the back glass when the track is wet. LOL, fun fun fun!

Let me know next time you want to hit him back. I'll let you know when he is behind the wheel. LOL!!! :stick:

Yeah...that sounds like a bad idea for me...plastic bumpers on a 2500# car vs a 4000# truck from the 1960s. I don't think Randy would appreciate it much either

I was behind the truck when he and the Scooby doo car made contact. At first I thought the truck just wacked him on purpose then I realized he probably was trying to get to track right and just couldn't see him.
