I seem to have lost mine and my usual supplier has them on back-order. Does anyone know where I can get a set locally, or of anyone that might have them in stock and could ship quickly? I have size 15 extra-wide feet, so I need the biggest ones that I can find.

I'm assuming this is for LeMon's next weekend? Did you try Apex Performance? They might even be at the event. They have been to the last couple of them...at least on Friday afternoon and Saturday.

Roger, I have several pair. I will bring them with me to CMP they're 12's. But you can show them to the inspectors. I'm sure they won't make you put them on to check for fit. The nomex socks are really worthless IMHO most of the ones I've found you can read the newspaper thru. I always use heavy cotton socks under them anyway.

I try to avoid Simpson products when I can, but a couple years ago when I looked they were the only ones with Carbon X socks, so I bought some. Really like them:

http://www.saferacer.com/simpson-carbon ... uctid=1060

Their "one size fits all" even worked on my size 14 feet just fine. I do have some "normal" Nomex socks, but like Bernie, never felt like they were worth much. The Carbon X socks seem much better in terms of thickness, and supposedly are more wicking than Nomex. They certainly don't wick like Smartwool or other truly "tech" fabrics, but seem the best of the fireproof stuff.

But like Bernie, I try not to trust socks anyway. I use high-top shoes and they go above the cuff on my suit. The shoe tongues have small areas of lesser protection, though, so I like having a good fireproof sock. I'm not convinced it's much better than a good cotton pair, but since they actually fit well and felt good, I went with them.

I use Oakley Carbon X boxers, too, and have found I really like the Sparco Carmythe longer underpants on top of that along with the Carmythe shirt. And Carbon X balaclava. I *hate* balaclavas, but after Espenlaub's fire incident and seeing that every pro driver I know wears one whether the series requires it or not, well, I wear one, too. There's just so much room for fire to get under your helmet, and I can't imagine the pain you'd be in with neck burns.

Thanks all, and Bernie, we'd appreciate if you brought your extras along. We have one other driver that is short a pair and would like to have them for tech. I generally wear thick wool Army socks, but they judges on the LeMons forum have been saying that they will be doing footwear spot checks due to some people being caught wearing their sneakers/flip-flops/etc while driving, so I'd like to have the approved gear available.

I'll also check with Apex on Monday.

i've taken to wearing a balaclava also. mine is the Sparco soft nomex version. a real bitch while trying to break in a new helmet but given the alternatives..........

my socks are some thin nomex something or another. i suppose i could wear both pair at the same time.

Apparently Simpson in Mooresville has them in stock as well. I have to head out that way to pick up the car from the fabricator, so I'll probably stop by there and grab a few pairs.

Just a quick review, the Simpson socks are decent, much better than the tiny gauze-like G-Force socks. They're kind of like regular socks.
