Jim,

Since I know virtually nothing about the rule of CMC, let me ask a potentially dumb question. Can you put an LT1 in a Mustang? As long as the engine is to the Camaro spec and the Mustang body is to the Mustang spec?

Spec e30 is also still on my mind, Jason.

the problem (for you) is that cmc isn't well represented in nasa-se. there are currently two cmc cars signed up for the next race, three in cmc2. meanwhile we'll have at least 20 spec e30 entrants, maybe 25.

Nice work Jim!

For those asking what the best car is for that class at the moment. Hmm... shouldn't Jim's results give you an indication. Camaro :-)

It was for that day, obviously. I am asking overall, at all the tracks.

I was kidding Kevin. ;-) If you look on the CMC site in one region Chevy is 1st and Ford is like 2nd-6th. In the next region Chevy is the top 6. Since this is supposed to be a "spec" series. Don't we really need to consider the drivers talent being the true equalizer? Or are we back to who can pour the most money into their car and still be legal? I'd like to believe Jim's success in CMC is mostly based on his skill. Then to an extent having the car stay together. Lastly I would think it would be if the Chevy vs Ford thing really matters. Maybe naive but it doesn't really appear that one car has the advantage. Like Jim said, which do you like to drive and work on.

That said, your comment on T1. That is tons of talent and you better have deep pockets. You can also forget the C5 Z06 you own. That's old news. In T1 you would be mid-pack, at best, at national level. You might be fine at local/regional due to lack of deep pocket participants. So I can see where spending money helps a lot. In CMC I think the playing surface might be a bit more level. No?

I've seen some of your exploits written on CF. You are doing really well with it in NASA and THSCC. Maybe the closest to stock class is the best place to run that particular Chevy?

Graham

Kevin,

No you can not cross breed :-) The only exception is we are allowed to run the Ford 9" rear end in our cars.

I will be coming down to CMP for the SE race. If you look at the Nationals results and the regional results, there is no clear platform that has an advantage.

The Mid-Atlantic has been Mustang territory. And there is history to why. Actually this past weekend, Chevys took 4 of the top-5 spots and that has never happened before. California and Texas regions are a good mix. The Mid-West region and Rocky Mountain regions are more Camaros/Firebirds.

There is a good reason why CMC is light down in the southeast. And there have been discussions to try and fix it that have fallen on deaf ears. Simply put the CMC director down there is also the AI director. Nice guy but knows little about CMC and directs all comers to AI. Open your wallet wide for that class.

I have nothing against Spec E30 or spec Miata. Man, if that is cup of tea go at it. But I love CMC because it is based upon the old Trans-Am days. A mixture of cars, showroom appearance, fair rules and low cost. I like the sound and feel of V8's. Yes, it get me off ;-)

Plus the crowds love it too. At Hyperfest and VIR (for whatever reason, the there were a lot of spectators this past weekend) the crowds are into it when Thunder comes rolling around.

Thanks for the insight, Jim. I may just stick to Chump for my w2w kicks for another year or so.

Thanks for the compliment, Graham. As for close to stock class, I agree. I have eyed PTA (I think that is what it is), but I don't know enough about it nor people running it to get a good feel for how it works.

if there were 25 cmc cars and five se30s in nasa-se i'd be driving a cmc right now. i'd love to have a big old v8 monster to thrash around the track!
