VK i dont see your logic, if i wanted a nice comfortable car i would get something without a cage, seats and harnesses, stiff suspension and all the interior removed.

Michel the BMW groupe N motor mounts are crazy expensive and and any rubber given a few years on a car will begin to brake down.

The vibration isn't just a "comfort" concern. You will put additional stress on chassis joints, bolts, etc..

Sean, Don't get solid mounts. Your car will vibrate apart and the paint will come off in sheets.

mounts work as a system - mixing and matching can lead to failure on all of them. imagine a simple system with two mounts, one hard and one soft. under load the hard one ends up doing all the work while the soft one is minimally stressed. the hard one fails early, leaving the soft one to do all the work, and it fails shortly thereafter. if both were hard or both soft the load would be evenly distributed and both would last longer.

There is a reason that cars do not come with solid mounts. I am sometimes tempted to remove them because the car is so noisy. At idle the transmission sounds like it is falling apart.

yep, not real street worthy. add in the clutch rattle in mine and it is almost deafening.

but as i had issues with body flex / driveline flex while down shifting, most noteably going into 14 at VIR, the solid mounts have mostly eliminated that.

I was expecting them to be UUC ones that seem to fail like crazy. You might look into the Bimmerworld GroupN knockoffs, they have been excellent on my car. Seems like poly is just too brittle for engine mounts. Hopefully the fan didnt get thrown into the radiator during all that.

Had the BW hard rubber mounts on my old M3, they were great.

I had the Bimmerworld mounts too. They are bricks. I doubt you would ever have any trouble with them breaking down or degrading.

Here's what they looked like when they came out... The drive shaft and coolant hoses were the only things holding the engine in place.

and here's my pretty new Vorshlag mounts before going in

I have never understood their engine mount design. It just seems kind of sketchy. I realize they have been very successful, but I didn't trust them enough and got the BW mounts.

Here's what my stock mount looked like when I took it out.

Clearly the solution is to upgrade to heavier duty coolant hoses! ;)

Okay, i also lost my PS at NCCAR. I'm replacing the rack and here's what I found when I pulled the reservoir tonight. I believe that the seals inside the rack failed and over-pressurized the low pressure side of the system. Never seen such a thing.

Top down on the reservoir, it ain't supposed to look like this

Image

It pulled the filter through the suction line

Pulled the filter out (I swear it's not what it looks like)

It turns out that the rack is fine. The reservoir filter completely sealed the pump suction. I flushed and cleaned everything out filled the reservoir and all is good. I think I'm ready for CMP.

What is that pink stuff? Did you drop some Big League chew in your PS reservoir? :)
