Did anyone watch Mike Skeen spank the field at mid Ohio on Saturday???
The comment from the announcers "his race craft belies his rookie status". It was an awesome display of driving.......unfortunately WC web site doesn't have a video of it.

I had dinner with a bunch of autocrossers/road racers last week here in Charlotte. One of them was Skeen. Super nice guy and very humble. If you met him, you would think he might be graduating from high school soon :) - AB

I didn't watch the race, but Mike has in car highlights from both races on his website...

http://www.mikeskeen.com/

From the video, he makes it look easy! That is some tough competition he was up against. Series debut win, fastest lap, and lap record! It's too bad he had gearbox issues in the second race. He looked on track for a second podium finish.

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

I watched the highlites last week but the actual race video is more dramatic as to his domination of the rest of the field. He was climbing up the first place car when the tranny went. He passed both Probst and Pilgrim in the sweeper on the outside at the same time.Woot!!!!

on another note
Boris Said FINALLY won yesterday as well in the Nationwide Series north of the border. Pretty cool to see.. Although it was a wreck fest.

That was a kick ass display... but like the announcers said...

Better get used to that motor... they'll equal things out a bit sooner rather than later.

Ron Fellows drove the same car, and if you'll recall most of his passes were through turns not on the straights. To me it appeared it was all the driver.
But I've been wrong before!!!

Oh I'm certainly not trying to take anything away from Mike. But the Vette clearly had more power than the other cars.

the vette and gt3 appear to have comparable power/weight ratios, the vette seems to have an advantage at the top end while the gt3 accelerates better out of turns, pretty much what you'd expect with both cars. the volvos look like they're launched from catapults at the standing start but are handicapped with lower power/weight due to the awd. skeen didn't have any sort of launch control since it wasn't working properly so they went without.

the part of this series (and others like it such as grand am) that i just can't wrap my head around is that there's a disincentive for doing well. win races and you're penalized with weight and/or power restrictions. i know for a fact that teams often set out NOT to win because they know what will happen if they do.

I watched a prior race when Fellows was in the car and the launches were about the same. The porsche and the volvo's jumped him at the start.

I have the race on DVR so hopefully I will get to watch it soon.

Also to Mike's credit there was a lap record set.
