Alright you slackers, you don't NEED any sleep......post up some ChumpCar updates for those of us who couldn't be there.

I checked the chumpcar website for updates, and it looks like the #0 Accord was running consistently in the top 5 for most of the race........so, how did it end up???

Anyone get to hang out in Tony Stewart's motorcoach and drink some PBR's with him??????

I was up there for the finish. #0 finished fourth. Tony Stewart's crowd only managed to finish one car out of three entered. The #14 camero finished 8th. SHR's other two cars dun blowed up. There looked to be about twenty some odd cars still running this morning, out of about thirty two or so that started.

Yeah, I talked to Stephen yesterday just before 10am. I'm gonna guess the #0 guys are pretty damn beat right now. From what I gathered from Stephen all the mechanical drama actually took place BEFORE the event.

-New M/C didn't get bench bled good enough, had to remove and rebleed.
-Someone noticed the voltage was low on Friday, alternator was on the way out. Replaced before the race.

During the event the car ran like a top. :) I love that lil' reddish/pink car :)

Saw some of the video of Steve's session. I couldn't believe how dark it was. I think he said those were the first few laps of south course he had ever done.

Ryan is right. Sean saved the team by bench bleeding the master cylinder. He is a great guy to have around. He helped me replace an rear axle seal Saturday evening too. Except for some fuel pick up problems and a headlight connection coming lose, the car ran great.

The big deal is how fast the drivers were. Those guys were fast! I honestly don't know how they did it at night. I know I couldn't do it and didn't try. I think Mitch had the fastest time, but all the drivers were fast and they passed almost everybody at some point.

IMO, they had the best combination of drivers and crew. About 4 cars were faster, but 2 of those blew up and the other two didn't have the drivers we did. Running the Lemons races was a big help. VK had the car prepared very well. His blue LED's deserve a prize from the organizers. The best anybody else could do was a yellow light on the roof. I'll bet anybody $100.00 VK's LED's are copied at the next night race.

Sonya prepared great food. I'm going to stop making fun of West Virgina because of her cooking.

I respect Tony Stewart and his teams. They didn't bring cheater cars. They have the money and resources to do that and they didn't. Sure they had the NASCAR hauler, tool and bus, but they played fair.

If they hired VK as a consultant, they could win. I think he predicted they were going to have overheating problems in Tony's Camaro.

Our Dreamweaver team in Magnum PU is a credit to THSCC. Fourth at this Chump event is a great accomplishment. Remember that most of this team won a Lemon's event too with Bernie leading that team.

that would be BenchWarmer Motorsports, Walter. but thanks for the kind words.

yep we is tired. very physically demanding, especially at night. my entire being is sore.

Chump Car may have something here. clean fast racing. i would like to see some standardization in the lighting rules however. some of these guys had stuff that would blind you when they were behind us.

thanks to George, Sean, Les, Walter and everyone else that came by to help and wish us well.

I can honestly say that every time I was in our Escort or the LTD, I made it a point to mess with whomever was driving your team car, LOL.

So, don't take out any hard feelings against the SnotRod or USS Enterprise guys, that was me.

:D

What shift (time of day/night) were you in the car Kevin?

FYI, we have no hard feelings with any of those guys...or anyone else who finished BEHIND us. :P

HAHA, touche.

I did two stints Saturday evening:

-- In the Escort for an hour from about 6:45 to 7:45 (right before dark until after). I think it was one of you guys that I was battling with pretty hard right around sunset and the two of us went off in T7 (the transition back to the esses). Lots of fun!!!

-- Did 1.5 hours in the USS Enterprise around midnight.... I was the one that set the fastest lap AND I am the one that spun in T1 that you mentioned on the Chump forum (if this is the incident you meant).

I did not miss the turn, I encountered some MASSIVE axle hop in braking. At the polar moment of the car starting to rotate clockwise into T1 with me fully countersteering to the left, I realized there was no saving it, came off the brake (it is an automatic car), stomped the gas and steered as fast as I could to the right. This effectively went ahead and spun the car 270 degrees clockwise and I was able to controllably drive off the back side of T1 into the grass and get out of the way. The black marks on the pavement were very impressive, LOL. So was the significant cloud of tire smoke.

Excellent running with you guys, I look forward to it again some time.

-Kevin

I was out there with you during that time. I drove my second stint from 10:00pm-12:00 midnight. How'd you like my blue LED's?

I came up to T1 after you had got pointed back toward traffic and were ready to re-enter the track. No harm no foul for sure.

We had a ton of fun, but after only getting 1.5 hours sleep Saturday night I'm worn out today.

I loved the LEDs, they made the car easy to identify. Looks cool too. The car with the lit up jet engines was pretty neat as well.

What I did during the time I was in the Enterprise was pace a buddy of mine running in our Escort. I'd hang out behind him for about 20 minutes and watch him duke it out with whomever... nothing like a front row seat to some good racing. Then I would get bored, pass him and run hard laps until I caught back up to him. And then watch his racing for a while again.

I agree with someones comments, there should be some measuring stick or something for headlight aiming. I was blinded several times and I am pretty sure I probably blinded others with our lights.

That would have been me - I made a Racing 101 mistake and followed you off - I did manage to make the pass in the dirt  - after that I said 'that f#@$er's crazy!' and decided the team would be less than happy if I dented such a pristine Honda

I'm pretty sure I have it on video - I'll see if I can get it online tonight.

That was my comment. Stephen and I literally spent about two hours aiming our lights one night before the race. We would aim the lights on my garage door, pushed the car out into the street (this was 9:00pm and our car is loud), then went up the street and sat in another car to make sure they weren't annoying in a mirror. This took several attempts to get it right, but we didn't want to get black-flagged for improper aiming.

As it turned out not too many people followed the rules (especially the cars with hood mounted lights) which made me move my mirrors to avoid being blinded.

I don't remember your lights on the USS Enterprise being too bad though.

Thoughts...
- Racing at night...quite an eye-opening experience.
- If you go 2 off just after the outside curbing at South Bend, just keep the wheel straight, don't lift, and there's a bump near the bottom of the hill that kinda throws you back on track. Not that I would know that from experience or anything.
- Remchak, after about 30 straight hrs of being awake, bounces around in the pit like the friggin' energizer bunny when you're coming into the pit. Shoulda seen it...
- I learned a great deal about the "throw it in there and hope it sticks" philosophy of racing during my night shift. Guess what? The car sticks, most of the time. Good to know.
- Wink mirror + bright, mis-aimed lights behind you = bad
- I've now been haunted by a 944 that didn't run as well as a 944 that wouldn't quit running. Who'd a thunk it?
