Great video!

I race Road Atlanta in an online spec 914 league and it's interesting to see how close the real racing line is compared to the one I use online. The main difference I see is that we can't run as wide in turn 5 as you can in real life as the curb must be much higher in the game as hitting it really upsets the car.

I kept waiting for you to find a way to setup a pass exiting turn 5 as he was really slowing you down there on Sunday. But that is a short straight and maybe not enough time to make it stick. It also looked like you were doing better with turn 7 on Sunday? Even in the game turn 1 is scary and hard to do right.

thanks richard! i think i could have made a run in 5 and at least gotten side by side, but between the strict bmwcca rules and it being my first race i decided to play it safe. i could tell after a couple of laps that i was a bit faster overall so i figured an opportunity would present itself and it did. had i not gotten by where i did turn 5 was my next option.

some of the other classes with stiffer suspension don't slam over the exit curbing like se30s, with our soft springs and shocks it's not overly disruptive and makes things fun. but you gotta be careful - if you go too far there's a nasty rut on the right side.

definitely a tricky track, i'm going to have to grow a significantly larger pair in order to finish even mid-pack with nasa in march. the fast guys are in the 1:45-1:46 range and i'm three seconds off.

Ok, league might be a stretch. But we do have an official group of guys who race every Sunday night. Complete with rules, spec cars, published race schedule and a points structure. Might be a cheap way to get your 914 thrills! You just need an Xbox 360, Xbox Live and Forza Motorsports 3!
We raced Suzuka this past weekend and actually will be doing Road Atlanta this coming weekend.

As much fun as it can be, it's still not the real thing. :(

Hells bells, for the price of all that stuff I can buy a nice 914 with minimal rust!

Have you followed the prices in the last couple of years for a "nice" 914 with minimal rust? (i.e. 1973 914 2.0).

(Continuing our hijack of this thread)...

I tried to convince Cline to buy one now vs. later (Hi Cline ) but I think he is looking to not start another addiction. The prices are going nowhere but up. All of the 356s have been bought up and are crazy expensive. Same is happening for all of the early 911s. If you are into collecting older Porsches your next choice is 914s. Nice cars (such as the premium 73-74 2.0) are up and it is absolutely scary to see how much total rust bucket 914/6 (factory six cylinder) sell for.

You guys are going to shame me into finishing my car. Actually I plan to hit it hard again this summer.

I would love to see it when it's finished. My father bought a 73 914 2.0 in Nov 1972, one of the first ones in the country when all the magazine ads still were showing advertising calling it the 914S. :) Sadly, the car was sold in the mid-80's. I have a lot of seat time in that car including driving it in my first autocross in 1976.

When done it should be a looker and will be on track. It should also be relatively quick as it will be getting a 3.2L 911 engine. I am shooting for just under 2000 lbs and 250+ HP.

Not quite ready to buy one yet. Which has resulted in a few deals slipping through my hands.
