Are we looking at solid ground or very sandy soil that would form ruts like we saw at Rockingham?

I can guarantee it wont be like Rockingham, Eastern NC sandy != Sandhill sandy unless you are at the beach.

I have pulled up the GIS Soil Survey for the site but can't find the damn USDA key to tell me what the soil is made up of. Let me work on that.

I can tell you that when Brad and I were up there, that access and construction roads that were being cut appeared to be very much clay based.

Found it!

They have 329 acres of land worth a little over 2 million according to the tax records!

Most of the soil designations are different variations of "sandy loam". If I had to guess, it will be similar to what we deal with at the Allen's depending on how wet it is and how well the particular area is graded to drain.

I am planning to go up there either tues or wed afternoon if anyone else wants to go.

Stacy, did you already get the rate sheet for Time Trials? .

It's my understanding that site rental budget for rallyx is usually around $350. I told him we were self contained and had our own timing, cones, and what not. Using their bathroom facilities could save us the porta a john rental.

Last year was a debacle for rallyx with events being cancelled due to low PRE registration. If rallyx needs to be a "break even" event for the club, then I would like to know what the actual budget is so those of us involved can help.

-one site owner has already said that a reduced site rental amount would be fine if we didn't meet budget. I think if we pitched this to some of the other site owners, they might be on board.

-another idea might be "group buy" pricing. If we reach a certain number of entrants (say 25), then it's one price. If come race day, we haven't reached the break even point, then everyone owes $5 more. I would have gladly paid an extra $5 to avoid events being cancelled.

I realize I should be pitching all this in the rallyx area but I would like to develop some new sites and this one looks very promising.

Oh great, now the STi's are really going to clean up :-) But yes, that does sound like a blast for a rallyx.

I like this idea.

Yes, Brad and I both have a copy... We haven't really talked too much about it, since there's no way to run multi-car events on the track yet, and there's no access to the "paddock" area that doesn't involve driving on the track.

I second that. Who isn't going to participate for an extra $5!

BTW, I have a site plan for this place (somewhere) if anyone wants/needs it. I think it's in a PDF format.

Damned if I hadn't been aslpeep...

I knew about the facility when was proposed, but somehow missed that they actually went through with it. In fact I'd have bet a dollar to a donut it was 'pie in the sky'. Given the primary purpose I had no idea they'd ever allow private speed events.

I kept thinking about contacting Dick Dell, an old friend I hadn't seen in years and get the inside scoop but never did. That was back when he was a wheeler / dealer and into several things, including collecting MGB's. His wife ran the 'nick nack' shop just west of the Six Forks Rd. / NC 98 intersection.

Perhaps I'll get to renew my friendship if they start holding events there.

They lived on Six Forks if IIRC. Had a nice spread with some decent shop / garage(s). He even had at least one 'employee' for the MGB deal.

At the time he was working on a scheme to buy cars that were desirable to folks in the Middle East, ship them over there and make a nice profit since they'd sell at a premium.

Steve 'who wished he'd followed up' Coleman

I met with Simon Cobb today and toured the facility. While the track is finished, the rest of the facility is a work in progress. Both the proposed rallyx sites are not ready for use but look like they would be great for what we do. I will keep the club posted as the site progresses.

Thanks for doing this! All rallyx needs is a big field-- any reason we can't use one of these sites ASAP?

If ya'll read the Track Report in January's Heel & Toe, you'd realize that we've been involved from the git-go! Be thankful that your officers from years past had the foresight to get involved and the absolute lack of scruples necessary to mix it up with the State politicians. :)

Contributions to bolster our graft and corruption fund are greatly appreciated!

Both fields aren't suitable for use yet. They are still grading areas and moving lots of earth. I think we're looking late summer or fall.

Simon is currently the only employee. He is from england and has little feel for motorsports on the east coast.

There is big time potential for HPDE, time trials, or a circuitx series at this track. NASA-SE and PCA already have events scheduled. NASA-MA was touring the facility this weekend and I would guess they will lock in a circuitx series if noone else does.

I also met with the Director of the board to discuss motorsports ideas. They are also interested in a stage rally event in the future.

For the price of the track rental, there is excellent potential for a club or track promoter to make money. I think it's just a matter of who locks them down first.
