I know there are a couple of you now that have driven them. And for 2010 you can order a 128 or 328 (but not the turbo versions) without a sunroof yay!

I've ridden in an stx 135 and it seems like it has a bit more headroom than the e46 cars did.

Just askin'.

Huh?

3 liter turbo in STX. Did I miss a rule change?

I think he was in STU. All you ST guys are the same to me. He's not in my class so I don't worry about it...

Talk to Keith Quistorff because he seems to be getting quicker in Scott's 135i.

I don't understand why more performance based coupes don't come with sunroofs. I'm sure there's a complex marketing formula to justify it to sell more cars. 8)

I'd imagine they'd have to be pretty entertaining to drive. But have a thick tire budget since they seem to be pretty hard on the front tires.

I'm not sure what I'm driving.
Maybe an ITR in DS.
Or half-assed STX prepped 330.

This. Ask Chuck Branscomb about stock-class BMW tire wear.

Chuck's tire wear issues were very much a result of lack of front roll stiffness due to running stock front sway bar. After he installed a big front sway bar, the tire wear issues improved significantly. Not to say front tire wear is reasonable on any BMW in Stock class legal configuration (or any other MacPherson strut set-up with non-adjustable camber), but it's a lot better with a big front sway bar.

As for 135i in DS, the jury's still out in my book. Co-driving Scott's car has been interesting, for sure. It's a lot of fun and appears to have the goods to be a front-runner in DS, but it needs a national caliber driver to prove whether it can compete with or outrun the class's top car (Type R). To me, its weight and lack of front tire clearance are the main drawbacks - the Type R is a lot lighter and can fit a lot more front tire. Comparing to another DS BMW, my E46 330 feels lighter (although there's not much difference in weight) in the turns and can also fit a wider front tire than the 135i.

I would say the front tire wear definitely improved with the larger front bar, but something like an A6 is easy to cord the edges up front still (well, "easy" in my terms means having to buy more than one set of >$1000 tires per season with a co-driver). This is nothing unusual for A6s as the Crossfire guys will attest to. BFG R1s solved that problem while likely giving up 0.5 to 1.0 seconds on a 40 second course to someone on A6s or V710s, but we've just been having fun while having tires last for 100+ runs.

By the way, whatever happened to that rumor that the Type-R was going to B-stock?

That proposal was dropped so it stayed in DS. Which is the correct place for the car. The Mini S will be in DS starting next year as well.

The only car that will be a contender in my eyes is the 2005 SRT-4 ACR. If I come out to a few locals next year, you'll get to see one. - AB

Is that what Daddio ran a few seasons ago with GRM and was doing crazy things like max positive camber (which looked like 10 degrees!) and 50psi in the rear just to get it loose enough?

He ran an 04 non-ACR. The ACR had wider wheels and stiffer suspension. The one or two guys I spoke with that had the ACR said it was not the pig that the non-ACR cars were. I think the GRM car had max front camber and then positive rear camber along with very high pressures in the rear.
