CSP is actually a lot closer than that when you factor in the "drop two" -- Colin has 31 points, Jeremy has 27 and I have 25. It's anybody's game, and time to get rid of the corded tires. :twisted:

Still lots of classes wide open, although a number did get settled at this event. Notable ones include: Gwen and Bernie Baake have nailed HS and OF respectively, Keith Vail has taken AS, and Malia has landed LAD.

Real tight classes include CSP, and of course FS is totally up for grabs. Note also that if Matt McGrain doesn't make both the last two events there are actually TEN drivers who are mathematically in with a shot at the TIR season win!

Next event might clear some more out. ST and SM could fall their current leaders' way with a good finish. Brice, you need two wins with Lee no higher than 4th in the last two events; Marcus, you need just five points from the last two events even if Keith wins both.

But this is an incredibly competitive season across the board. There's a lot of classes that will only get settled at Sanford on Halloween.

Edit: Wes is right, of course, discards become very important now. I personally think of it in terms of how much can be added rather than the actual discards -- a win at the next event would only give Jeremy an extra 5 points to his total, while Wes can count the full 9.

1st place through infinity place points are awarded with 9 for first, 6 for second, 4 for third, 3 for fourth, 2 for fifth, 1 for sixth, seventh, eighth ...

So just think 9,6,4,3,2,1,1,1 ...

Members in good standing are allowed to collect season points, and the highest six finishes are added together for the total. You may hear people speaking of "drop two", that's assuming that all eight season points awarding events are run and one would "drop two" of the worst showings which is the same as the best six.

unfortunately, I think that damn aluminum can in my back seat that dislodged itself during my last run may have cost me any chance at the season points. All Lee has to do is basically show up and he's got the win.

At least I'm closer to him, I think I'll have something for him next year. . .

And if there's a tie on points at the end of the season, then it goes to the person with most wins; if still tied, then most seconds; then most third places. If that doesn't resolve it, the tie stands.

That's why in TIR, Charlie is listed as 3rd in standings with Jennifer and Judi tied for 4th -- his 2nd place finish puts him above them. Jennifer and Judi each have one third place, so they remain tied.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure you actually only need 5 events for a season trophy. If so, Matt would just need to come to the remaining two points events.

EDIT - Just confirmed the 5 event requirement at http://www.thscc.com/autocross/info/rules.html#points:

10.2. To earn a year-end trophy, the competitor must be a member of THSCC. For Tarheel Sports Car Club year-end trophies, a competitor must enter and run at least one more than half the number of club events. If a competitor has run in a number of different classes, the class for year-end trophies will be given for the class in which the majority of events was run. If an equal number of events was run in multiple classes, the competitor will designate the class. Owners of late model green Miatas may be disqualified at the THSCC President's discretion.

Absolutely correct. Fixing original post too. My program gets it right, but I didn't in my analysis. Matt would need to attend both events (in any class) and get at least 6 points in TIR to win the season.
