As an owner of the much maligned MX5/NC, I look at it two ways. BS is almost nonexistent in our club. Not a single BS car has participated in the class all year. BS consists of 350Z (heavy), RX8 (gutless), M3 (E36, E30, Scary but nobody can leave them stock), Mini JCW, MR2 Turbo (Too tricky to drive), Porsche 911,914/6, 928, 944 turbo and 16V, 968, C2, C4 . CS consists of mx5 1999-2010, MR2 Spyder or SC, Pontiac Solstice/Sky and that’s pretty much it. When combined this would make potentially a large class and there still wouldn’t be many cars running in it locally. My biggest worry is the new MX5, with 60 MPH top speed in second vs 54 MPH, Stiffer springs, more damping, and an improved transmission that can probably shift into third without drama. The problem with the NC was that it is a car with good DNA, but marketing blundered. They turned it into a Z4 wanabe cruiser instead of a true sports car. That being said, they left enough knobs to turn so that one can get really decent performance from the car. Very precise steering, the best brakes, ¾ of the horse power that would be ideal, and good balance. The best thing about the NC is the confidence that it gives you. Unlike the S2K, it is stable at and above it’s limit. That gives me the confidence to push harder knowing that if I screw up, the car can recover. I only loose time. I’m not too sure about the M3, but I think that the MX5 NC can run with the 350Z’s and the RX8’s, at least up to 54 MPH. The Mini JCW may be the car. My dilemma is still more competition vs being out gunned. I think that if I can win in this new group, I would feel pretty good. BTW, CS PAX is 0.837, BS PAX is 0.835. I guess that means that CS is faster.
