.014 or 14 seconds - you are still in the shed, thus making you "first loser", AND you got beaten by a girl. (don't mind me, I've been trying to beat my husband for YEARS, so I have to enjoy these moments - even when they happen to someone else!) :P

Seriously - .014 separating 4th from 9th pax??? DANG!!!!

Well where should I start? I believe that a few Tarheel members have just had a taste of the best autocross site in the state. Visualize Danville with a runway four times wider and six times longer!!! The surface appeared to be of a non skid type composition so it had plenty of grip. The only area that seemed to lack in grip was the first turn of the course where the surface material was scrubbed off the tarmac by the turning and acceleration of the cars. The Marine Corps at Cherry Point really put out the red carpet for this event also with bleachers, and road barriers demarking the pit and grid areas. Morale , Welfare and Recreation (MWR) personnel distributed water throughout the day to the competitors, they carried cases of cold water to us as we were on grid and in the pit area. They also set up tents with tables and chairs, for breakfast and lunch, which could be purchased at the mobile canteen posted there. All in all a very impressive start for the Cherry Point site and a feather in NCR’s cap for obtaining this venue.

But for a hurricane, it could have been all ours. Miles Beam had arranged for us to run there, but Hurricane Floyd intervened a day or two before the event. Initially the commandant told Miles we were still good to go after the storm passed, but it turned out that all of the roads leading to the airstrip were flooded. Still, it's good to know that someone got access to the site. Hope to run there one of these days.

Art,
Ryan is right. This site is on Cherry Point. Ryan, it’s runway 19. Since you’ve been there, you’ll know where that it. It’s over 400’ wide and over 8000’ long. It’s roughly 6 to 8 times larger than the site at Jax Air Station. No kidding, the space shuttle could land there! A 120 second course would be a drop in the bucket, impeded only by the need for a large entry to work the course, and the length of the day.

The route taken to obtain the site included a free “active duty only” school on Saturday. They had about 35 students. The marines seemed to really enjoy themselves both days. The school on Saturday must have been a good thing because there were very few, if any DNFs on Sunday. They did keep this first time course pretty straight forward, simple, and not too long. I think they’ll use more of the space next time. I hope more from our club will make the trip when they do. It’s a good group of people.

Runway 14-32, the runway runs almost all the way to Roosevelt blvd. I'm guessing you guys ran towards the fuel pits. That is a pretty nice, unused piece of asphalt! There are soooooo many huge pieces of asphalt out there.

I am bummed I couldn't make it but will try to make the next one.

When is the next one down there? Sounds like a great place to have an event.

I'm thinking toward the end of September, maybe the 27th, but I don't think the date is firmed up yet. I'll post it when they open registration. I know the next one is back in Jax Air Station.

Don't know how many photos you saw on facebook, but here's a couple of pages.

Here's a shot that gives you an idea of the size of the venue.

Duh. I posted that yesterday on page one of this thread. Would have been much less stumbling.

Wrong site, that was at New River Air Station in Jacksonville. They run there as well.

Oops, thanks for the correction. Everything east of Morrisville looks the same to me :) That's an impressive site!

Well, the results are posted. They called a cone on Bernie on his -.014 run which, to be honest, I don’t think he had. Anyway, it’s more like I took him to the back porch rather than all the way to the shed! :) That “cone” was the difference between 5th and 9th in PAX. Yeah, yeah, hee, hee, I still beat him! But, I did have a gourmet dinner cooked for me that night. Life is good!

Lame.

Sure, it's got size, but I don't see a single refreshment stand at any of the worker stations, let alone a bartender. How is one supposed to work under those conditions?

Well, you see, the bar was under the canopies and the waitresses brought your orders to you.

Man that looks like a cool site. I definitely have to make the next one. I could design a really cool 35 second course for that site.
