Terrific Weekend (March - Maxton AX)

To Alex, Gwen, Wes, Rob, and everybody else. Great job!

Novice day was well run, well set up, and I heard nothing but praise and excitement from the students (and families). The late rain didn't wipe any smiles off of their faces. It might have even helped keep the dust down on Sunday.

The T&T setup was more than enough to shake out the lose nuts on and in the car. Fast enough to be scary(ish). Next time we need to send Wes out with a bucket and scrub brush to get the slime off the course :twisted:

... but other than that (maybe partly because of that) a great run. I wish I had more time on that side of the airport.

Sunday was a blast! What a course! I wasn't a fan of maybe two elements, but on a 75 - 80+ second layout, there's bound to be a few parts that are better than me. I loved the three lane changes and following little slalom before the big sweeper.... and I really enjoyed the whole taxi way after that!

Thanks to all who came out the shake off 4+ months of rust from lack of autocrossing. After all afternoon Friday and Saturday in pouring rain setting up the courses, a special thanks to Alex, Charlie, Rob, Rodney, Dustin, Karl, Carl, Bernie, Wes, Mo, Judie (and if I’ve overlooked a name, speak up,) for helping with setup. I love Laurinburg and looked forward to setting up a course there. But, I now know, that until you have actually done so, you just have no idea how difficult it is to find enough good (passable) concrete to get from point A to point B and back. This was one time that having a few cooks stirring the pot wasn’t a bad thing. Sometime between 2:30 and 6 PM on Saturday in the rain, I began planning my future in drag racing…..straight and fast, with none of those pesky cones to mess with. All in all, I still had a blast. I hope that all who came found something that they liked. My favorite part was the 3 lane changes and the gates at the top of the P. I hate that the cone count was so high and that there were so many DNF’s (me included). Though not planned, it was a look ahead course, and if you did not, you paid the price, again, me included. Thanks for coming.

I want to give a big THANK YOU to all the people that helped with the Novice school. Alex, Charlie, Gwen, Stephen for not making me drive the bus, and Rodney for showing us how to remove the water pond from the "P" (Pics later) :lol:

I want to give an even bigger THANK YOU to the Novices who showed up in the rain with a great attitude and willingness to learn and improve in some challenging conditions and to the instructors who braved the rain to make the students day go well. Thanks especially to the ones who stepped up at the last minute and to those who put up with my trying to get everyone matched.

Well, just to chime in hear as well, thanks to everyone that helped this weekend.

Friday setup was not too bad. We dodged the rain for the most part. Saturdays novice school was fun, but damp. After we downed some pizza's for lunch the rains came and came. I think the students really had a good time. Never seen so many folks willing to drive and work in the rain and no bitching! Thanks to everyone who helped set up the Sunday autox course in the down pour!

As for Sunday event, I went in as a rookie GM as one of your newly elected VP's. I went in rather stressed about everything that had to be setup. It's truly amazing to see a volunteer club just get to work and make everything happen. Now that I've had an insiders look at an autocross, I can say I'm very impressed w/ this club. Again, hats off to everyone for making this a great first event. We do have some lesson's learned we need to address, but overall a great kick off to a great year for THSCC!!

Thanks to all the hard workers over the course of this weekend, especially all that stayed to set up the course on Saturday afternoon! Getting drenched in the rain isn't fun. Sunday's sun and wind was a welcomed change from Saturday afternoon. I had a blast over the weekend as always. Can't wait for Sanford!

I had a great time and enjoyed watching a few close battles like the AS S2k's and Chris and Lee's close finish in ST class. Getting to ride along in a GT-R is never a bad thing either...

Thanks a lot to all the event organizers and course designers. The flow of the course was really fun and required a lot a squeezing and needle threading such as the left to right lane changes before the sweeper and the right hand turn into the finish.

I enjoyed the lane changes in the "P" section along with the sweeper.

Laurinburg's always a hoot with the long course and grippy surface.

Thanks to everyone who helped with the novice school.

We had lots of students and everyone did a great job of keeping things moving. All of the students I talked with learned a lot and had fun.

Thanks especially to the instructors who gave up a day of test & tune to help out the novices.

Enjoyed it! The wind was pretty crazy, but it was better than rain or 100 degree heat. The strangest thing was when I finished my 4th run and was driving back to the pits an I nearly got T-boned by a baby stroller zooming across the pit area and crashed in the field. Luckily there was not baby in it.
