How do I find out what class my car is? I've been looking and looking, and I can't seem to find it.

I have a 2009 Nissan GT-R.

I've seen these run as a ASP, SM, and when I ran an event in Charlotte, the coordinator told me SS.

Why the discrepancy? And is there any more information on this?

The event coordinator in Charlotte was incorrect. The GTR is specifically not eligible for stock class. That may be a change specific to 2009, but the rules are out for 2009, and that's the story today. So, I'd say ASP.

09 Solo rules are out

The GT-R is on the exclusion list for Stock Class. So ASP would be the proper class IIRC.

That's correct, ASP is the class for all cars on the Stock Exclusion List. - AB

I noticed a thread about wheels on a TDI and this sparked another question. (I didn't want to threadjack the other OP)

My GT-R car came with Bridgestone tires, the base model comes with Dunlops for '09...

In '10, the premium model may be offered with Dunlops (because they perform better in dry weather, and they are quieter). My current tires won't make it past 2 more track events. I have to replace them... I'd prefer to go with the Dunlops. Will this take me out of ASP?

Tires need only be DOT legal for ASP. Therefore, anything you'd buy to drive around on will be legal.

Hey Adam. Not to hi-jack your thread, but I'm unsure as well. I think I made some unwise mods that will bump me up several classes (unintentionally). :banghead:

87 Supra Turbo with 17" wheels (thanks Adam), stock were 16.

Turbo was rebuilt and enlarged and boost increased with MBC.

It would be an F stock car if I hadn't "modified" the turbo and increased the boost right? Now I think I'm STU or SM, is that correct?
Can you guys set me straight?

Stock wheel size has to be the same diameter and width. The offset can't be more than plus or minus .25" from stock.

This probably doesn't help but there's a stock one that runs with Triad in ASP.

I had no idea they were exempt from SS.

Go read the SCCA Solo II rulebook linked above to see how the turbo modification affects your classification. Also read the wheel rule for stock class - stock class only allows you to run a diameter/width wheel that was available as a factory (not dealer-installed) option, with 0.25" leeway on offset.

You can run either SM or XP. The turbo mod automatically moves you to SM, where wheel sizes make no difference. If you the entire interior except for the rear seat, you are still SM legal. If not, you are only XP legal.

FYI, you can't run STU with any boost modifications. If you had the stock turbo with a manual boost controller, you would legal for an *SP class. - AB

I've read the rulebook about the wheels/tires... I guess I just didn't have the confidence to interpret the rules without confirmation. Thanks for helping us out.

The last thing I want to do is attempt to run my car out of class, and start my membership on the wrong foot.
