There's an interesting story about Andy Hollis that is going on right now. Damn!

Yep, very interesting. You'd think he would be a little more vigilant given his previous record of cheating. :shakes head:

That decal first came out last year iirc. Hollis is giving back $15,000 of contingency money for redistribution. *That* is the cost of not having a car 100% legal for those out there that ask "but it's just a valve spring shim" or something else.

Vigilant? He knows those engines inside and out, he filed paper on the Seeligs for having too thin a head gasket last year.

Yeah well....I am a bit disappointed in my driving - both at the Pro and Nats. I will give credit where credit is due, though.....Barbara Leroy--Bahme (I know I butchered her last name) simply outdrove me on day 2 of Nats. Even if I was "on", I don't think I could have matched her time. Add to that giving up a .4 lead from day one thanks to a cone and I had zero chance of catching her. Donna had some killer raw times as well, but had the dreaded cone disease as well.

Ah well...there's always next year!!

As far as the Pro...of course now I wish that I had practiced in the rain at least once before, and made some smarter choices with tires. But after the first couple of runs I just put a big fat smile on my face and tried to learn from it...concentrate on what it felt like when the tires didn't grip at all and the car spun or plowed. I hadn't experienced that in this car.

Chris, I thought you drove really well in the Pro...all year in fact!

It was truly a pleasure racing with the ladies in ASL this year. I think everyone drove well...it was just Barbara's turn! She's been in it since 1997 and this was her first jacket. I just had to give her a big hug and congrats on driving so great. She's a really a nice gal.

I think I heard that they changed Karen's course before Thursday to try to reduce the cone disease for the other classes. :?: There really were just too many.

I suppose the one thing that I was really happy about for myself was that the car felt awesome and I went out and put up some good raw times right off the bat. I didn't walk away feeling like I had let myself down by not driving my heart out. I do wish this year I had had more seat time, but life's changes just don't allow as much fun as you'd like sometimes. :D

The major downer was that Monday morning started with a severe sore scratchy throat which by Thursday had progressed to congestion in my head and chest. The trip home was a real challenge. Thank goodness for cold meds, aspirin and cough drops.

Oh and hey congrats to all who made the trip...just going out there and driving, sharing the unique experience at Nats is something to be proud of no matter where you finish! :D

I think Karl will agree with me that it is truly an awesome feeling and much more than what you might expect it would be. Nothing like it.

I bought and installed about $50 worth of little plastic clips for the fender liners and the trunk upholstery for the trip to Nationals. Just to be extra sure. Had Eric pulled out the win on Wednesday, and my car been found illegal, I would have felt awful. Just awful.

Of course, it does satisfy my inner OCD to know that the fender liners are all perfectly in place, and that the little clip holding the vinyl onto the rear bulkhead no longer has a broken head on it...

I'd love to do it in the future when I have a weekend friendly job, more time (and $) to commit to autocross. Another Type R wouldn't be a bad idea although I'm getting the R-comp bug for the M.

To be racing against that top level of competition would be a thrill not to mention seeing all the really cool maxed-out autocross cars.

The biggest downside is the trip to Kansas and back. It sounds like it could be hell, but I guess having a co-driver is really the only comfortable/practical way to do it by splitting the sleeping/driving and sharing expenses, especially at $4.20 a gallon for premium.

It sure is! Wait a minute. We took two cars.

Suffering a bit from the volume being turned down since I've gotten back. That and digging out.

The Pro was definitely a learning experience. First time having driven in the rain on A6s was something I'm planning on looking forward to doing ever again. Nate Whipple did loan me some old Hoosier wets for Day 2 and the difference was remarkable. But at that point I was digging out of a deep hole and I'm not quite talented enough to calibrate in 2 runs.

Really glad I did the practice on Sunday to get a sense of what the car would really feel like. Out of the money spent, that was the best $30 of the whole weekend.

Tuesday was a blast. At the end of the day, I couldn't believe how tight the field was. Jim drove his ass off. Knowing he had the times and just waiting to hear if there was a cone a call. . . Frustrating. Tuesday's course drove a lot better than it walked. The back alley/chute/whatever you want to call it was definitely a high risk/reward element. If you nailed it. . . cleanly. You were flying.

Wednesday's course may be the most fun autocross course I've ever driven. Barring maybe my second or third time at the L'burg Loop. West course flowed amazingly well, with a few spots that could really lure you in too fast. The final 320° sweeper/slalom in the final element was fantastic to drive. But less fun to shag cones on during say. . . I don't know. F Stock?

Unless something's changed, Johnson is also setting up the course for Black Lake next weekend. If you can go, you should. I suspect it'll be a fantastic site with a great course on it.

The good news is that Jim had a clean run all the way home. :P

David, are you guys going down there for that? I'm registered, just trying to decide if I'll make that trip.

Check the STS forum on SCCAForums.com
synopsis: random impound check of top STS cars by pulling valve covers revealed illegal valve spring shims on Andy's engine. He was immediately DSQed. All 2008 wins and earnings were stripped. Further penalties pending.
