I loved the event. Many thanks to the event chairs!
I especially enjoyed the course, for me it had a very different feel from the "usual" Laurinburg. It walked disjointed and kind of odd, but all that went away behind the wheel. It drove beautifully. I even found it easy to follow.
The three groups worked pretty well for me. One thing I liked was running 1 and working 3 gave me tons of time to change wheels and even pack up the car between them. Usually there is barely enough time for the wheel change between running 3-A and working 4. I did enjoy not having to rush in the heat.
I just wasn't on top form, and I knew it well before I made my first run. I just relaxed and gave it my best shot anyway. First run was slippery as heck, I was getting almost-straight-line wheelspin on several parts of the course in 2nd, particularly on the main runway -- I can't imagine what it would be like for someone on street tyres or not in HS.

The other runs were fine, so slippery course and crusty first-run Hoosiers take the blame.
After the third run, still falling way short of the 83.0 it was going to take to win and keep HS mathematically alive, I finally figured I had nothing to lose and dropped 2 psi out of the fronts(*). Took 2 seconds off my time, but that was not nearly enough. PAXing 15th was not at all bad under the circumstances.
Congratulations to Emmie for clinching HS, which she did in fine style with a brilliant 4th overall PAX!
(*) Pyrometer testing earlier in the season showed I still needed to lower the fronts for optimal traction, but they were getting kind of close in rollover and I wasn't sure the risk was worth it. Turns out that at Laurinburg that wasn't an issue, after I did the 4th run on 2 psi lower they were just fine.
