I'm interested in going to the intermediate school, but not sure if I will be able to. My sticky tires are bald, and I need to get a new set and gently break them in before the points autocross next weekend. If I have 300 miles on them by Wednesday, I'll register for the intermediate school. Otherwise I'll probably need to spend that Saturday still breaking them in. We'll see.

What kind of stickies do you have? We'll use Kumhos brand-new, with the stickers still on 'em... maybe other brands are more sensitive to break-in? I know people talk about the mold-release compound and heat-cycling and stuff, but frankly I've never noticed a real difference.

Aren't those street tires? I thought you ran in DSP and would be on competition tires. Street tires might be different... :whoknows:

They are street tires. I don't run in TIR because DSP doesn't give me much PAX, and I'm just not competitive in TIR because of it. That, and my car is slow. And I think I could be a better driver. At least I've had some close battles in DSP open class.

Hopefully I'll get something out of the intermediate school.

You won't damage your new tires IMHO. Heat and squirming is the enemy of tires and AX doesn't generate enough heat for a long enough time to cause damage. Do a few late night laps around the nearest cloverleaf in both directions to scrub off the mold release and open up the rubber and you'll be fine.

You'll probably chunk them a little bit, but no amount of "breaking in" will solve that, unless you're talking about significantly wearing the tread depth down.

Just "talked" with Dustin. $35 is the cost of the Saturday school for students, (snip)

I just preregistered for this. The Paypal link invites me to pay $20. Should I bother with this or just bring cash?

I guess I can fix the Paypal price while I'm waiting for the event info...

edit: it's now $35 for everyone (members and non-members). VPs and registrars, y'all may want to check if anyone's Paypalled at the $20 rate...

The event GM is on vacation ...

In brief, the event info is that there will be a Intermediate School on Saturday that will be very unstructured with a focus on seat time. Think of a test-and-tune with an instructor sitting next to you. Season pass holders *do not* get into this event free. Entry is limited to drivers that have a minimum of five events under their belt.

Sunday's event will be a foil to the last event that is currently titled Turning Japanese. Details to follow as Dustin and Kevin find a way to return emails. Last I heard, KA was working on dashplaque art that needs to be sent to VK last week.

Just got back from Rally WV. Wanted to add that I'll be doing a course walk class early early early in the morning (like starting within 30 minutes after the gate opens) on the 9th for those who actually want to be fast. Those who don't want to be fast can skip it and just get seat time.

Thanks to Wes for doing the dash plaque. :D

d000000000000000000000d

Shit has been solved. Come on out Saturday AM, the course will be fun, fast, and will require you to look far ahead to do it right. You'll get more runs than you have tires to do them well. That's the plan, enjoy!
