I know Jim F won D-Stock. I know there has to be one or two "AUtocross is hard" stories out there.

It's really hard when you spend all of day one with the shocks on full soft. :D

I wish I could learn how to launch a Crossfire. Fortunately, I won't have to worry about that anymore ;)

Jim drove very well to take the win. When you have the 3rd place finisher at '07 Solo Nationals, who also coned away the ProSolo Finale win (and had 2 wins in Pros prior to that) finish 10th out of 18, you know it was a tough field. :) - AB

And, it's really hard when the sway bar breaks AGAIN in the middle of afternoon runs on day 1. (but there is a happy ending....Donnie loaded us up with all the necessary hardware to fix said swaybar) :P

From a galaxy far far away...

Yea, I'm an idiot and I'm man enough to admit it. I won't even blame this one on Spratte since I always adjust the shocks but as David mentioned, we spent the entire first day running with the shocks on full soft and couldn't figure out why the car felt so sloppy. As I was reaching into the center console for some gum at the end of the day and the Koni knob caught my eye, it suddenly occurred to me that I hadn't used it yet this weekend. Oops.

Autocross is hard but it is even harder when you're an idiot. :D

It was a tough dang field and I feel like I got a bit lucky. That 135i is going to be deadly...

Did you happen to notice what kind of setup they were running? Shocks, tire size, etc.

Edit: Congrats on the win!

Thanks.

No idea on the setup but I did notice they were showing cords on the front 245 Hoosiers on Sunday after 12 runs. The only thing potentially slowing that car down is it doesn't look like they can get 285's on it like the Crossfire but it probably doesn't matter if they switch to Kumhos.

From the few runs that I saw, it looked like there was a bunch of speed left in the car...

I was thinking of your car when I saw that. The car appeared to have no camber in it whatsoever.

Incidentally, there was another red 330ci out there with the ZHP package that I lined up against in the morning. He was beating me off the line by about a car length and then holding it to the first turn. Pretty even under acceleration but he was definitely getting a better launch with the RWD.

Another interesting thing about DS was that there were 9(!!!) different types of cars in the field. I fully believe every make had a chance to win although it sure seemed like the 135i was the clear car to beat. New $40k+ class? Ugh...

Didn't you go on to drive great at Nat's last year??

Congrats on the win Jim! Sounds like it was a fun event.

Congrats to everyone who went especially Jim F for proving that a 90's era car can still bring it in a tough class.

I hate that I missed this event, it truly is a fun one. Maybe next year.

Here's a link to the class results: http://www.scca.com/popup/raceresult.aspx?event=12418&file=296

Jim,

I assume the two lines for each driver show times for runs on each of the two mirror courses?

If so, it looks like the 135i just barely beat your time on one of the courses?

Surprised to see Jr Johnson just missing 1st in ASP. Also, it looks like it might have been a tight course? (i.e. all the Elises taking the top three spots in SS)

I'm getting married in about 5 months and Bryan is going to start co-driving cars he's interested in for next year. We talked about not bringing the Crossfire to Nationals and just finding co-drives so we can fly and drive.

If I can find something fun to drive, I'll go to Nationals. If not, I'll stay home. - AB

At one point the 135 was lined up against a WRX. The WRX would pull a car, maybe car and a half. The 135 was making all of that up prior to the first turn.

If the SCCA was looking to "speed up" DS, I think they've succeeded. Topeka should be interesting.
