Since we haven't had a consistent site since Highlands changed from the Greensboro site last year, what're your thoughts about trying something different?

Laurinburg is equally bumf*ck away from everybody, ginormous and has the possibility to do two completely different courses, and there are enough hotels around that people can stay locally. (guess where I'm leaning)

Plus Laurinburg is DAMN cheap to rent right? Also there is that Messican restraunt that we seem to go to every time we are in that God Forsaken Town. Ooooh, we could make it a three event weekend with a bracket race at The Rock on Saturday night.

The person who's car survives 8 autocross runs and 16 drag runs wins!!!!!!!

That said, I hate L'burg because the concrete is getting so bad and the town sucks and the local Messican restraunt can't make a good margarita!!!

Oh and I like GSO because of Smoky Bones. They have good ribs and beer.

EDIT - Sanford is close and makes it possible to stay at home thus reducing the cost of attending NCAC. That is a plus.

There, I covered all sites like a good politician. I should run for President!!!!!

The thing that I'm leaning towards is that Laurinburg is reaching an end-of-life as a decent venue without a cash or labor influx. Might as well do it sooner than lament that we didn't do it in the future ...

Laurinburg wins for me, due to sheer size. You can run a big course with good overlap, and you have tons of paddock space. Yes, the pavement is getting worse, but what's there is gripper than anything else we've got. It's not convenient to ANYBODY (except maybe Kent Eklund), so I don't want to hear the CCR folks griping about their drive down US 74. There's nothing we can do to the help the HSCC folks except move the event to Asheville, and of course, you know I'm not concerned about what that other club thinks.

 Sanford runs a close second for me.

I've got a soft spot in my heart for L'burg. That's where I just showed up for the Test and Tune and Rick Butters did his best to scare the p*ss out of me in the S2000, and then Stephen was super-cool and let me get some driving in because so few people had showed up. Completely burned up the front Ziex 512s that day 8)

Not knowing the club history, that kinda defines TH for me - big awesome airport courses FTW!

I have always thought the L'burg was an EXCELLENT site to hold the NCAC.

-Its HUGE
-Its pretty central in NC
-Its HUGE
-Its Grippy
-Its HUGE

You know, since its our turn in 2010, that gives us some time to work on some repairs.

If you look in the Staff section there is that thread I started a couple of years back on repairs. We discussed what was messed up at the time, roughly where to get cement, type, how much, tools, labor, sweeper, etc. Far from complete. It's an old issue we have ignored. It means going to L'burg and working your butt off to fix it. Not race on it.

Shame to see that site go away because it's got the grip, cheap to rent, and big. Seems that with get a few new sites to use L'burg just got pushed to the side. Might want to consider putting some effort into it in case you loose some sites.

Graham

Would the ECTA benefit enough to want to help with repairs?

They've helped before.

you could even just start raising entry fees to subsequent Laurinburg events for a while to start to build a "repair fund". I'd pay an extra $5 per event there to go towards repairs. If we get 100 entries, thats $1000 for repair $ every 2 events. It might not save up enough $ right away, but in an effort to get it ready for 2010, its reasonable. . .

just a thought, I don't know how well it would work, but I think demand for autocrosses is pretty inelastic with respect to entry fee price.

I voted for Sanford, but L'burg would be about equal for me. The biggest complaint is that it is getting beatuper and beatuper with less and less pavement. I like the idea of restarting the thread about trying to fix the biggest problems.

 Maybe we can convince the State to have the street ricers .....oops I mean racers... labor to cut up concrete and replace it for the people who want to race legally. :D

Broken record but I like G'Boro:

- Closest to everybody in the state
- Potentially the largest competitor turnout
- More course variety with elevation changes
- Real bathrooms (quiet Spratte! :D)
- Actual course viewing when you're not running
- Shade trees while viewing the course
- A/C inside the Coliseum to take a break from the heat
- Tons of restaurants and hotels less than 5 minutes away
- Occasional clueless kid from the surrounding neighborhoods wandering through an active course serving as an obstacle

Bonus: Aggravating Art McDonald since it is in Triad's backyard.

Just a note...as far as bathrooms are concerned, in many places you can rent self contained bathroom trailers that feature real running water with "real" toilets and even AIR CONDITIONING. They have generators and big tanks and the like. Cost is like 10x portapotties, but in the grand scheme for a big event could be considered worth it.

For the record, I like Laurinburg for a big event. I understand the Greensboro attraction, I just think the course size is too limiting. As is paddock.
