Let’s don’t even say the R word a week out.

I'm interested in running in the NCAC to help fill out the THSCC contingent, but lack a ride. If anybody is interested in taking me on as their co-driver for that event, see me at tomorrow's autocross.

A big thanks to all the Tarheel folks that made the trek to Charlotte for the NCAC this year. In total we had 13 people that came out. The site actually ended up being much better than I had anticipated. There were quite a few light poles in the lot, but they were able to lay out two fairly challenging courses. Continental Tire let them use the bathrooms and the cafeteria at the facility which was really nice. They ended up using Top 10 Pax and Top 10 Raw from each club to determine the NCAC Club Cup this year. I didn't stick around for trophies but heard that Triad won by a landslide. Today I actually worked during the heat that most of the top 20 raw ran in and there was some amazing driving going on out there.

Unfortunately, even though we had enough drivers to compete, we had a couple factors working against us. The first two run groups on Saturday were really wet and a lot of our softer PAX drivers (HS, GS, and STS) had to run during these heats making our times less effective towards top 10 PAX. While not quite as bad, it didn't help that they left the run groups the same on day 2 so those that dried the course Saturday, swept it on Sunday. Either way, our club's drivers had some great runs all things considered and represented us well. Thanks again to the following:

Bernie Baake - 1st place HS
Gwen Baake - 1st place HSL
Michael Dacko - 3rd place Novice
Les Davis - 2nd place SM2
Donna Frank - 6th place PRO - 1st PAX and Raw THSCC
Chuck Frank - 7th place PRO
Donnie Jones - 2nd place DSP
Matt Nicholson - 1st place Tire class
Colin O'Connell - 2nd place CSP
Debbie O'Connel - 2nd place CSPL
Judi Westerfield - 2nd place HSL
Michael Westerfield - 3rd place STS
Stephen Westerfield - 2nd place STS

Tarheelers drove well. Just not enough of us. And at least half of us ran in the wet Saturday morning which did our pax times no favors....

BTW, in what bizzaro-world is the G-stock pax tougher than D-stock?!?!?

Edit: the event was EXTREMELY well run. Best, most organized event I've been to in years (only done HSCC night-series for the last 3-4 years, so....). Seriously, those guys have gotten their act together. That was one well organized and run event.

My bad too, Donna did have one clean but slow run on Sat (her second run), the first two runs in our run group on Sat was still on a wet but drying course. Her quickest Sat Raw time was but .030 slower than Rob Falkner. Her quickest (and clean) time on Sun was but .013 slower than Rob F., who was the course designer both days.
I had horrible luck this weekend, After my first (wet)run on Sat I came back to grid with a flat tire. It had a puncture right in the center of the tread. We took a mechanical and replaced the tire with one from our spare set.
I coned all 4 of my Sat runs.
On sunday on my 3rd run I pushed out and slid into the curb with my right front before I could stop, breaking off part of the bead portion of that rim. The tire held air so I was able to drive off course and once more took a mechanical and swapped on another tire out of the spare set and rushed back to grid to make my final and quickest run.
Congrats to Jim and Keith even tho they drove for Triad  (and drove that "cheater" DS should be BS car!) , and Matt N. for driving a car with street tires pretty near quick enough to have won the GS open class. Bernie too as well as the rest of the Tarheelers that braved the elements and the distance to run.

Damn, missed taking CSP by .182.... but I moved from third to second by winning on Sunday..... thank god for re-runs.

I might just have to do Carowinds next month with these guys to prove who's fastest.

Great job by Bernie, Gwen, Stephen, Michael D, Matt N, and (humbly) me for placing for THSCC today. Poor Gwen had to get up and collect so many plaques that she almost forgot to get hers.

Tarheel may have lost the cup this year, but you have to give it up every once in a while or it just becomes the THSCC cup, right?. Six out of twelve or so with trophies. Not a bad fight from Tarheel.

All of the following images.... and more.... are available (at full resolution) for a small charge or kind word. We had a great time, thanks to all who made it this weekend.

Take a look at Gwen and Bernie's front tires? Looks like a lot of roll over.
