Nothing terribly interesting but my family likes to see them so they were uploaded anyway:

DoubleX Saturday afternoon left side

DoubleX Saturday afternoon right side

If you look real close, you can see the Pro Solo Tree counting down just before the launch. These runs were done in the afternoon session when I was lined up against Mr. Vail and you can see his car off in the distance when I'm approaching the finish line. It gives you a somewhat muted sense of the excitement of "rushing towards" your opponent while finishing the course run.

The course was challenging if not a hair on the tight side. Not a very good course for the high-rpm Type R since we were never really in the power band and I gave up on shifting gears after the morning session due to running out of talent in a few spots.

Tour Saturday Run #3

Tour Sunday Run #1

I apologize for the sound in Saturday's run. I experimented with setting the mic on "high" in the ChaseCam PDR and it didn't work out so well. Unfortunately it only has a "low" and a "high" so I may have to experiment with an external mic if I want to get better sound. Volume was never a problem with the mic on low in the CRX for some reason. :)

Anyway, the courses were much faster and everybody seemed to enjoy them. There were a few bumpy sections which looked to be quite the handful in a stiffly sprung car but other than one spot where I actually bottomed out on one run on Sunday, it wasn't that noticeable.

The good news is that our front Hoosiers lasted 44 runs this time unlike ~10 as in Arkansas. They were definitely down on grip after the DoubleX which I can see in the datalogger but they had just enough life left in them to squeak through the Tour. It's still rather sad that $500 worth of front tires only truly last through 1 Pro Solo type event before they are off the pace and if it weren't for the contingency and luck enough to win, I think we'd be switching to something else.

Anybody want to buy a pair of "lightly worn" 225-45-15 Hoosiers? :D

Jim

Yeah, that's sad/crazy imo. I can't imagine that the bulk of the SCCA solo people wouldn't perfer stock class to be a street tire class at some point -- especially as all tire prices continue to rise, and on some cars (mine) one A6 is almost $300. I still can't believe how much fun it was to cord $600 of front tires in 16 runs last year. :)

Nice videos! The 330i would have been dead meat on that course. I just watched both videos only watching your hand movements -- superb job!! From what I can see, you do such a great job at "reading" the course that very little "opps" or "recovery" hand movements are needed, and the transitions are superb -- just the right accleration/decel rates of your hands to not improperly upset the chassis. No wonder your "Mr. PAXman"! :D

Nice videos Jim. Again congrats on the win both weekends. I was wishing for my car to be a bit narrower at the Doublecross but atleast I was in the power band and gearing was perfect on my car for that course. You did an excellent job and I look forward to running against you guys again in DC. I am very thankful I have front tires that will last a more than one Pro now and I was ecstatic that I held onto 2nd place over Danny by 0.04 of a second. I was able to get myself a new $300 tire so I only had to buy one tire for DC now.

Thanks Chuck and Keith.

Chuck, I'm not sure which course you were referring to but I think your BMW would have been great on the DoubleX course. It really didn't feature any super-hard transitions and 6-cylinder torque would have been well utilized.

The Tour courses were very different for sure and I do think it put the Type R in its natural element. I would have loved to had another crack at the Tour courses with fresh tires but David just couldn't justify it. Hopefully we can horde enough free tires so we don't have to buy anything for Nationals this year. I think if we can manage to win one more free tire, we'll be all set. That's a big "if" considering the level of competition running in DS.

I guess I should clarify my statement about a pair of front Hoosiers lasting only one Pro Solo event-- that's with a 2 driver car which is a minimum of 24 (albeit slightly abbreviated) runs for the dual course format. Still absurd in my opinion but I guess they can technically last 2 events with one driver. I wish Kumho would come out with a 225-45-15 although the 225-50-15 probably would have worked well on the Tour courses. The 225-50-15 would have had us near idle for most of the DoubleX course.
