A friend of mine has been running Novice in his 99 Z3 Coupe and wants to eventually move up to a regular open class. Since there are no other cars that run in BS he was thinking about running one of the street tire classes (STS, STU etc) but we can't find any information on where the Z3 Coupe fits into those classes...any input?

Its a 2.8 liter btw

Not eligible for any of the ST classes. being a 2 seater it's immediately eliminated from STS, STX and STU. Being 2.8 liters puts it over the 2.4 liter displacement limit for STS 2.

Street tire class might be an OK option.

Yeah, TIR is probably your best bet. Unfortunately, nobody runs BS and hasn't for a while (my wife's car is technically B-Stock, but she is STX eligible and runs there instead).

Is this the friend who bought Chris Browns wheels? If so, you'll need to verify that those wheels are stock class legal (same diameter/width and within +/- 1/4" of an OEM available wheel) for the car as well.

Bummer - thats too bad. Think anyone would care if he ran STU? He is sorta lukewarm about running the TIR class.

See item #4...

Best bet is to run in the correct class (BS or TIR) to avoid drama. If he starts running BS, maybe someone will join him?

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.
