We are trying to evaluate the level of interest in the club for holding an Evolution School here. The proposal, for a variety of reasons, is to do two schools on a 2-day weekend. It would most likely be a Saturday and Sunday, but I'm open to a Fri-Sat combination if the instructors could support it. The proposal is:

Hold a Phase 1 on one day
Hold a Driver's Challenge the other day

The Driver's Challenge is the school for the advanced driver's that have already been through other Evo schools. The web page implies that you have to have been through both phase 1 and 2 to take the Driver's Challenge, but I've heard from others that Phase 1 is enough. I'm trying to get clarification from Jean.

update- 1/26/04 from Jean Kinser- "Phase 1 required, phase 2 highly recommended, phase 3, bigger bonus." You want to have as much experience under your belt as possible, and be using it in the challenge.

If you are interested, reply to this post so I know who you are! The cost is probably going to be between $225 and $250 per school. If you are serious about improving, it will drop your lap times quicker than anything you can add to your car.

The site we would use and the date are not known. We'd have to work that out, but I would hold it as early in the year as we could arrange it.

The thing I keep thinking about is... I HAVE to take the first 2 schools to be able to take the Phase 3 school (the one I'm really interested in) - a total of $750. Not sure how much the challenge school costs, but I would guess another $250, making it a total of $1000. And the first 2 schools sound a little too much like the THSCC intermediate/advanced schools to me.

Anybody with experience want to share the differences between a THSCC "advanced" school and the Phase 1&2 Evolution schools?

Phase 1 wasn't what I thought it might be, so after taking that one, I've bailed on the whole concept. I think the challenge school sounds good, but I'd rather put $250 into seat time and instruction from EVO instructors that I know, that would help me for a beer or two

Well I'm already planning on taking Phase I anyway. Probably sooner than you'll get one arranged. So I'm open to either Phase II or the Challenge school if that is the only one offered and only requires Phase I.

Graham and I are planning to do the EVo school at the same time, but if ours is early enough, I would be interested in the Phase I or Phase II

I was planning on taking the phase 1 school sometime in the near future, so if this was to happen within the next couple of months then for sure i would be in on a phase 1 school.

We have taken all the Evo schools but the dial in, and don't regret a single one of them. (think they're expensive try doubling it!) We will definitely be repeating some of them. Experienced national level AXers still take even the phase one school as a refresher. We have taken Evo schools in the last two seasons with fellow students like Eric Peterson, Tim Aro, Jim Pastorious, Richard West etc. etc.
Each phase builds on the previous phase and adds new skills. They are not like the tarheel schools in that it is not just practicing a set of individual exercises, but an intense series of runs on medium in phase 1 to full size courses with some changes in the courses over they day in phase 2, 3 to demonstrate and strengthen different skills. You are linking features as you would do in competition in all phases. The same instructor will work with you on a one to one basis demonstrating driving your car with you as passenger and riding along with you driving. they fully critique every single run. The skills taught in each phase as explained on their website may sound basic, and they are, there are only so many skills involved in AX, but the way they are taught in the Evo schools gives them a completely new insight, perspective in ways that are directly applicable to your very next event. they teach not just the gross skills, but also the nuances that makes the difference between a good AXer and a nationally competitive AXer. The better you are going in the more you can see and appreciate the real value of these schools.
I truely believe that each phase will advance you more than a season of seat time. If you do find the Evo schools to be a waste of time and money, then you should be out there winning national trophies and championships!

Since I had to drop out of the Phase1 and Phase2 school in Virginia Beach is there a possibility that we are going to be holding any classes.

That's a lot of loot to spend for instruction when i just go out to have fun and spin my car at least once. 250 dollars is more than I paid for my corolla in the first place. I wouldn't mind taking the courses but for that kind of money, i'll just pick up my instruction as I can from all you experienced people out there
